I had a good experience while living at the complex, but a terrible time when moving on to another home. The complex will try to charge you for any fee they can, even if they have your apartment already reserved by someone else. They also do a terrible job communicating the charges/fees to you in order to get all they can.

I guess it's the better apt complex in Longview, tx...which isn't saying much. It's wayyy more expensive than the other apts I've seen and I don't think it's worth the extra cash. There's a lot of college students here so be prepared for parties Thurs-Sat night and the random catcalls from drunken kids...no respect! The walls are paper-thin and you could hear everything...people showering, slamming doors, etc. The previous reviewer is right about the cheap finishes, the fake wooden floors curl up when damp and the cupboards and counter tops aren't that nice. You have to fight for parking after work. I hate not having an entry key. It's ridiculous how you have to pay for such an expensive apt and NOT have access to it because it's gated....you have to press the passcode in and when it's pouring rain..you're just SOL. I asked them about the remote key and they said that the "company is trying to save money so there's not going to be new keys.." What the heck does that mean..so you're not making enough money to justify giving your tenants access to their own apt complex? Are you THAT broke? They need to prioritize if they want people to continue to live here and refer others to this place. I've also had many issues with maintenance..nothing ever gets done. I have problems I called them about and they never fixed it.

Where do I start? First off, it’s nice that the apartments are on Hawkins. It’s close to restaurants, the movie theater, Lowes/Home Depot, Walmart, etc. And at the time of this posting, the land to the east, north, and west was either vacant or just an open plt with a single home. However, whoever designed the layout of the complex probably wasn’t at the top of their class. The one entrance is located just past the crest of a hill. So you can’t see more than a couple hundred feet when pulling in or out. There’s a second gate, but it’s exit only. And where are the mailboxes? By the gate you can’t go in of course. There is a sidewalk that goes to the mail center/laundry room, but it requires you to go through the pool area, which is closed from Labor Day to Memorial Day. So you either have to walk through the grass, or drive around. Which brings me to a point I personally don’t usually worry to much about, but even after being up for 3 or 4 years, there are still a lot of places where there’s no grass. Either it wasn’t planted properly, or they just haven’t bothered to take care of it. Then there’s the trash compactor. Instead of regular dumpsters, they have a big industrial trash compactor. But you can’t operate it. So trash piles up around it, and if they don’t clear it fast enough, it spills out of the enclosure. And, being a concentration of trash, it smells. Hopefully you’re not in a unit facing it. It’s pretty loud when they pick it up in the morning. And is there a sidewalk for those who live on the other side of the property? Nope. The complex is controlled access, which is nice, but they don't give you a remote. I was told it was because their owners only allow them to buy a certain number per year, once a year. So you have to use a pass code...the same code for everyone else. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a gate if it's a generic code. Parking sucks if you don't get covered parking. And if you want it, there's usually a wait list. As previous reviews have stated, the finishes in the apartments are cheap. Most of the vinyl wood-look flooring in the kitchen, along with the vinyl tiles, aren’t even adhered to the floor properly, so they stick to my feet and come up off the floor. The counter top in my kitchen sags because it wasn’t installed properly. Some of the walls aren’t even straight. Clearly the work of the lowest bidder. Then there’s the TV and internet. They’ve signed an agreement with providers, so you’re stuck with Multiband for TV (basically, the apartment has dishes and the signal is distributed throughout the complex), and AT&T for DSL (which is slow as molasses). If you want a satellite dish, you have to put down a deposit. I’m sure there’s more that I could think of if I really sat down. I’ve lived in much nicer places for less that I pay here. But at the time, it was the best complex. However, there’s a new complex going up nearby, and assuming they turn out well, I won’t be renewing my lease here.

My husband and our 7 month old moved here in February 2010 while we were waiting for our house to be built. All they had available immediately (2 bedroom) was on the 3rd floor, and if we had waited a week, the second floor would have come open. We took the third (we figured it would have less noise, since we wouldn't be sandwiched between two floors). They are nice as far as apartments go. Cheap finishes though. They are very echoey and when somebody slams their door you can hear it. Parking is terrible after 5:00pm and especially terrible on Wednesdays and Saturdays. There are very few kids here, and most of the people in our building are elderly. Most of our neighbors are quiet, the person below us though has turned her music up fairly loud a few times, but after one call to the courtesy officer it hasn't happened again. Everybody has a dog, and they poop everywhere, even though there are designated spots. A lot of people put cat food our for the stray cats, but the cats don't bother anyone and I suppose they keep the rats away. Somebody else had said that the walls are "paper thin" but we haven't had a problem with our neighbors next to us, they are very quiet. They are a decent place to live, not worth the money though. I'm sure the price will be going down soon, they are building a newer gated apartment community a few miles away that is supposed to have nicer finishes (real granite, cherry wood cabinets) and they are renting them for the same price as Longfellow arms. Oh and we have lived here for almost 4 months and still haven't received a remote for the gate.
