I was looking for good apartments that had a reasonable rent in West Ashley. If the apartments were good, they were overpriced and if they were cheap, they were in a bad neighborhood. Colonial Village was really the best option I could find and I was very happy during my stay here. The only thing I did not like was that they force you to pay cable for 45$ a month even if you dont use it. But given the low rent and the location it is in, I am not complaining. They do charge a lot if you are late on rent or breaking the lease early. So I would suggest reading the lease carefully before signing it.

I lived in this complex for over 7 years and honestly it would have been shorter if I didn't hate moving so much. When we first toured the complex we were shown the amenities (such as a Hot Tub, more on that to follow) and shown a model apartment that was very impressive. We moved in and much like others have mentioned, the actual apartments did not live up to the standards of the model. The appliances are over 25 years old. The fridge was the least expensive model one could buy (no ice maker, cheap shelving that broke immediately). The dishwasher had an equipment tag and was manufactured in 1983! We immediately had a roach problem and called for pest control. The contractor did the minimum (opened cabinets, sprayed barrier spray) and apologized that he couldn't do more. We ended up getting our own pest control to kill the infestation. Sadly, every time an adjacent neighbor moved we would get the roaches back. About 3 months after we moved in the Hot Tub was filled in without notifying the tenants. Good bye to that. Our shower in the MB had a huge mold issue. All maintenance did was caulk the mold back in. We dealt with the issues for a year and went to renew. Corporate was set to raise our rent by $175 a month on renewal. In defense of the front office they gave us a rent concession We were warned we could never be late on rent or it would go back to the original rate. We renewed for a total of 7 years and eventually even with the rent concessions we were paying too much. At 7 years we moved to Summerville and got a 3 BR House detached for the same price. We now have 100% more amenities. I am giving it 2 stars only due to the efforts of the staff. The office always did what they could locally to offset the policies set by corporate. I was able to see that maintenance wanted to do more but they were hampered by budget. As time went on the neighborhood got worse. By the time we left there was a home invasion in the building across from us. I also witnessed several drug deals in the Parking lot. Much like every complex in West Ashley they will let it get bad, evict everyone, do a full refurb and then rent them out more in line with the market. It will get worse before it gets better.

This is the worst place I have ever had the displeasure of living in Charleston. I live in a 1 bedroom 550 sq. ft apartment and pay almost $900 to have to deal with cockroaches, spiders, and ants after numerous requests to have weekly pest maintenance. The front desk is extremely unhelpful along with the maintenance crew that always leaves a mess at my front door whenever they blow leaves at 8:30am. The washer and dryer facility is a joke as well. After loading $5 onto my laundry card one of the washers charged me $4.50 for one load of clothes and left me $.50 so I couldn't dry my ONE LOAD. After asking for assistance the front desk lady told me to call the coinmatch operation. Thanks, but that doesn't dry my work clothes before I have to be in this evening. Please, save yourself the time and hassle and live somewhere else. Absolutely displeasing.

Colonel Village at Westchase... Where do I begin. Our apartment floods every time it rains. This problem could be solved with a few small repairs, but seems to not be a concern for anyone on staff. They do send a water extraction guy out here, but when your apartment floods as often as ours, your carpet will start to stink and slowly deteriorate, not to mention the Giant Fan they leave and Dehumidifier, which triples your electric bill and it's not even your fault. They say they are allowed to have contractors anytime during the day, without warning. This is unfortunate as I am in food and beverage and business 'day; hours start shortly after I have gotten home from work in hopes of getting a good nights sleep at no avail. There are several laundry centers around the grounds for those of us without washers or dryers. But the only way to operate the machines, is with a preloaded card that you can only load in the office during business hours. Again, problem for those of us who do not work 'regular' hours. Mold grows in every corner of the bathroom, and also on every window sill, they get cleaned once a day. The office tells you when you begin your lease to let them know the first sign of mold, but when we told them about our mold problem, they said that it was nothing without even coming to look. The neighbors we have been unfortunate enough to live next to have been no picnic either. The walls are paper thin. I could go on and on and on but I think I will stop here. Good day.
