I love how the employee of CHNW has to come out and defend it because no one who has actually lived there would give it 5/5. I also love how she has to bash the students, calling them stupid and discourteous, because obviously the problem lies with the residents, right? Ha. This place IS awful, I'm sorry. DON'T LIVE HERE. The reason the waiting list is full is because Portland has a shortage of low-income housing, especially for students. I lived in the Tiffany building, and we were evicted with only a month's notice. Nobody told us the building was being sold. Nobody told us WHY we were being evicted. They started doing core drilling and all kinds of loud, obtrusive work in that month, so bad that nasty stuff was filtering down from the ceiling into my dishes where they pounded and drilled. Having to move out before the term started was a huge disruption, expensive, and caused a great deal of stress. And now, to top it off, they sent us all letters saying that oops, they didn't sell the building after all, and we have first priority to move back in. Are you kidding me?

This place is great and they are very tolerant when it comes to paying the rent on time However I gave it a 2 stars because of couple of reasons: 1. There is no dish washer in the tower apartments 2. its a very very old building so during the winter it is freezing cold inside the apartments and the build in hitter is kinda scary and barely warm the house 3. PGE is super high because the apartment is sooo old. My bill every month in the winter for PGE is $110 for only 2 of us. And I have the TV and the Hitter I bought in Wal-Mart on. 4. The RENT increase every 6 month by $50 and that started since 2013. They increased the rent in the summer and we just received a letter that the studio are going up again ($700). So remember that if you move here, the rent goes up without notice and it is almost every 6 month 6. There is only one washer and dryer for every floor. 7. If something is broken it takes them forever to fix it. The reason I lived here for almost 3 year is because they understand you are student so if you late on rent for one month, and talk to them prior to it, they will work things out with you. The location is just excellent for PSU, PCC and Art institute students. They have a shuttle that drive students to PSU and Art Inst every 30mn everyday except weekends. During final week they drive 24h. They also do lot of little fun events. So overall, It is good for students.

I've lived in the Goose Hollow Tower and the Plaza (moved out, then back in again for a total of three years). I attended the resident council meetings for all the years I lived here so I guess you could say when I had a problem with something I did something about it. Most of the people who posted review on here created an account just to trash CHNW and that is not fair. The location is great, $30/yr for a street parking permit and the rent is always lower than any other option in town. Tower: true the washer/dryer situation can be a problem with just one machine per floor but like most rental buildings the machines are not owned by the management company and when it takes a while to get a machine fixed it is usually because people are lazy and don't report the problem. Oh and let's face it stupid college kids break the machine trying to stuff them too full. Other people said the Tower rooms are cold but I didn't think so and the brick walls make the rooms really quiet. I lived in a studio so maybe the two bedrooms are different? There is also a ton of storage in the studios. Plaza: is a newer building so the kitchens have dishwashers. However, I thought the walls were a little thin and you could hear people next door. But again I attribute that to discourteous college kids and not necessarily as the fault of the management company. Secure parking and the shuttle to PSU is really helpful. The CHNW staff was always really helpful when I was having trouble with paying on time or when something needed fixing. Oh and the package receiving service was a godsend since I purchase most of my textbooks online; someone was always there to accept my package and secure it so it didn't get stolen. I felt really safe in both buildings. They have cameras and secured entrances on all the doors. When there are strangers in the building it is usually because someone was being "nice" and let them in without knowing who they were. The one thing that really bothered me was the trash and recycling, people (especially exchange students) don't know how to recycle properly so there was always stuff in the trash room that should be sent down the shoot not stacked up for recycling. But maintenance always cleaned it up within a day. Plus I lived on a lower floor so the trash shoot would fill up on holiday weekends when they staff was on vacation but I've heard the RAs now help with security and minor maintenance so these things are less of a problem. I've never heard of anyone I know getting bed bugs here but I did hear they were a problem at OSU and UofO too so maybe it is a college thing? I've also visited the historic buildings and they seem much more quiet and adult-like than the goose hollow buildings. One poster mentioned that the people living at the Tiffany were not given notice of the building sale...that's not true and they were offered help if they wanted to move to one of the other buildings. We talked about how the sale would impact the residents and were very concerned about what would happen to them. I think people were upset because THEY LIKED LIVING THERE. Oh and it is worth mentioning that CHNW buildings are always filled up with a waiting list so I'm guessing most people feel like this place is a good value and want to stay longer than some of the disgruntled reviewers who have posted here.

Woah! I guess I've been lucky here. Been in the Palladian for about 7 months and have had zero problems. The other residents are very quiet and polite. There will often be packages sitting by the mail boxes and as far as I know, no theft. I haven't dealt a whole lot with the employees, but they all seemed fairly polite and professional. The guys in the building over are pretty bad about playing loud, crappy music, but it's a different building. Maybe I'm just lucky? I dunno.

NOBODY ANSWERS THE OFFICE PHONE DURING NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS. WHY!?!? Also, it took them over a month and a half to fix my broken window and it was during December and January. I froze my ass off. Thanks a lot!
