The apartments are okay if you are looking for something cheap.. You pay for what you get.. There wasn't any updated amenities (washer & dryer connections, dishwashers... etc.) in the apartments. Constant problem with "palmetto bugs," ants, termites, and other creepy crawlers being in the apartment. No matter how many times pest control came out, it didn't solve the problem... The staff is not as friendly either!! The area can be sketchy, just be cautious... I had several things happen to my cars..! Overall, not too bad, not too good either!! However, I definitely would NOT RECOMMEND!!
Horrible experience living there. We were there for at least three years and it was the worst renting experience. First, the neighborhood is not safe and it is in the middle of the worst part of north charleston. Second, that security gate they have is a joke, especially when people would jump the fence or just walk through the car entrance. It also doesn't help if most of your neighbors are the kind of people who you would like to be on the opposite side of the fence from you. There are cops in and out of the apartment on almost a daily basis. It is so bad that they have N. Chas police department sit on the inside of the gate on a regular basis. Once in a while you will see them actually arrest someone. I saw my neighbor get arrested after coming home from work! My other neighbor, I could hear him brutally beat his little girl and cuss at his son calling him a bitch and telling him he was going to lock him in the trunk of the car on a regular basis. More than once I'd called the office about it and DSS! Then, there are the "block parties" that neighbors insist on throwing in the summer that consists of adults getting high and drunk in their front yard and the street and little toddlers running around past midnight and bass so loud from their music (across the street mind you) that it shakes your bed! The rent is low, but you will lose ALL peace of mind! The roaches are a CONSTANT problem year round, although the buildings (some) are up off of the ground. I'm sure that the pest control people they hesitantly send out spray some diluted formula around the house that the roaches laugh at! They are EVERYWHERE and the office staff give that "it's charleston, we have waterbugs" BS excuse. I've lived here my whole life and have NEVER seen "water bugs" ...ROACHES like that! In fact, i googled it and some are water bugs and some are german roaches. It's not fun to have to bleach down your living space on a daily basis and still have roaches tip toe through the bleach. Then, there are ANTS when were aren't roaches! Once the ants that came through the joke of a door so fast that I put a pizza on my kitchen table, washed my hands, and came back and there was a huge line of ants up my table into the box and all over my food! There were constant water spots on the ceilings and always a new hole in the roof, somehow. That aside, the buildings were built in the 40's and you can tell tthat no one ever bothered to replace the doors or most of the fixtures and insisted on painting over 60 years of old paint instead of stripping it first. So the paint (probably lead) came off in thick chunks exposing a gross mint green color underneath. Then! The maintenance staff, when we had mold in our bathroom decided to recaulk the tub without cleaning under the old caulk first, leading to the same problem forever! I finally just did the job myself in order for it to be done right! Also, check your stove before you move in, because if there's a scratch on the enamel of the stove, they will paint over it with latex paint, which will discolor as soon as you turn the oven or stove on high... then when you proceed to move out, they will tell you that you "didnt clean" the oven and take your entire deposit from you! Beware, steer clear. spend the money on safer cleaner apartments! Oh, and the previous poster- Marcus, I know him! He is telling the truth 100% we moved out of that rat hole about the same time!
