Our laundry room at 445 east 14th was recently redone and this is great! Sometimes the hallway and lobby area smell like garbage but this is only sometimes. I wish there was more options for maintenance during off hours since i do have a dog and do not feel comfortable sending people into my apartment when i am not there. It would be great if one day a week you could do after work service for small problems such as the sink not draining or air conditioner maintenance.
LOVE IT! I am so happy I have moved here. I recommend Stuyvesant to everyone. In fact sometimes I even go see the apts for my friends that are relocating to NY! yes, I am like an agent! I just want all my friends to live here! :)
Maintenance and upkeep of the grounds is terrible. A lot of the walkways are cracked or with holes, and it has been this way for years. Dog urine and feces (smears and otherwise) are also continually evident. Management nickels and dimes everything. (Don't lose your key card or the key to your apartment, or you'll pay!) Students are packed into apartments, as few can afford the high rents here, which have been made so by the continual turnover of students and families that cannot keep up with dramatic rent increases. (Make sure you know the difference between preferential rent and base rent before you sign on to an apartment). This used to be a community for the working middle class, but now that's gone. An abysmal failure of the last couple of landlords, from Tishman-Speyer to CWCapital. Constant renovation of older apartments and the creation of new facilities will mean that a quiet life may not be had for weeks. Nighttime partying by certain students may also keep you awake. The Oval area is still nice, despite the pruning of much greenery. But with thousands more packing into Stuy Town, even the Oval is getting denser and denser on the weekend and losing the feel of being a refuge from the city. It's going to get worse. I assume at some point in the future, this place is going to be torn down, with dozens of high-rises taking over. There's money, real money to be made here. RIP Stuy Town.
Overall great apartment and living conditions, decent service (7 day turnaround time for service requests leaves a bit to be desired, but still very convenient). That said, I had a terrible experience when my key broke in my lock - StuyTown was able to come and fix the lock next day, but it took almost 2 weeks for me to get a replacement key. StuyTown refused to leave the key in the apartment, in our mailbox, or with security (3 seemingly logical and reasonable options), and work hours for my roommates and myself did not allow for anyone to pick up during res life business hours. There should be some way around this - calling security when you need to get into your own apartment is a waste of everyone's time.
Beautiful landscaping with lots of parks great for spending your time outdoors. Convenient to NYC MTA buses and subways. It's an oasis from the hubbub of the big city.
