Members of our family members have lived at Avalon Mission Bay North for 3+ years. The facilities are beautiful, safe and clean, but the real magic of the place is the staff they have in place. Javier's maintenance crew is remarkably responsive to even the simplest needs, which is amazing given the number of people they need to serve. The concierge team is excellent so it's completely unfair to single out anyone in particular, but our family's personal experiences with Merry and Raymond have been wonderful. It is a great place to call home.
Only AT&T u-verse available while random units in other phases are gifted with Comcast. Internet comes to a crawling halt around peak hours when everyone is watching Netflix. Hallway smells like garbage. I mean it smells like rotten garbage and pet manure all day long. The plumbing is a joke. Think of those portable showers you bring along on your camping trip. Now imagine that water becoming scalding hot and ice cold intermittently. The water system breaks down all the time and apartment building is left with no water at least once a month. Whoever built this 18-story tower must have graduated from IKEA. Epitome of made in china cheap modern.
I live here for about 3 years and I loved the place. However, in the last 4 months the complex at mission bay had 4 break-ins. The last one right in front of my apartment. It is distressing. Management doesn't seem to care much and no cameras or additional security was installed. dont come here
STAY AWAY from this community. I've lived in different Avalon properties for almost 4 years now and truly thought of myself as a loyal customer (and in fact, recommended this place to several people). However, given the very ugly experience we are having with the move-out now truly shows their true colors, which is just to get as much money out of you as possible. They go through all these great 'guarantees' just to get you to sign the lease and once you are an existing resident with a contract, they get away with anything they want. For one, they significantly increase your rent after 12 months, but I guess that is just the insanity of SF. However, we needed to break our lease early due to personal circumstance and they assured us that they will work with us (aw, how sweet!). Thankfully, another resident took over our lease and our apartment was in the position to being transferred to the new tenant. Five days before our move-out, Avalon tells us that the new tenant changed their mind and will be taking another apartment. WTF?! I've been trying to find some middle ground with CJ, the head on-property manager, because we are completely screwed. We took our apartment off the market for 3 weeks because they told us they have the new tenant. We stopped our own search for a new tenant. And now that we are about to move out (literally, place is covered in boxes) they are slapping us with the full penalty for breaking the lease. They wont even put new tenant's deposit toward any help for our situation, in spite of the fact that they completely screwed us over. I am telling you, they are all nice and sweet in the process (and granted, the front desk and maintenance people are lovely) but when it comes to anything having to do with their leasing office / customer service, they treat you like a money-making machine and just a number. Stay away if you want anything more humane and much more professional treatment and learn from our VERY unfortunate experience.
Great amenities, the staff are helpful and resourceful, and the location is perfect - right next to transit, shops, restaurants etc'. It's not cheap but it's worth it. The extra services you get actually save you time and money, e.g. I had maintenance and deliveries of furniture in my apartment while I was at work (they'll let people into your apartment with written permission). Oh and there's hot coffee in the lobby in the morning. :)
