Lived here for nearly 5 years before moving to another complex. The main reason we moved was that the rent was beginning to get too high for what we were getting, and it seemed liked the only reason the rent went up so much was because of the more luxurious apartments that were going up in the area. One major issue I had was the leaking A/C unit in my closet that they always kinda quick fixed but never permanently fixed. The one thing that you'll have to remember about renting here is that the costs will rise significantly every year. Especially now that the much nicer complexes are moving in next door. I always felt like they were raising the rates far more than what any of the amenities or "improvements" deserved. Near the end of our stay there, we began having more and more trouble with our water smelling like sewage or having a red rust tinge to it. The pipes are old and need to be replaced, and I even had mold so bad inside my closet walls that they took a week to rip it all out and replace the floorboards and sheet rock. I could see straight down to the garage. People that love this place will say that the price is the best for the area, and while it might be true that it's cheaper than most of the other places around the Kirby area you are still not getting what you are paying for. The rent falls just below luxury apartment pricing, and the last time I looked, most of the people living at the Berkshires were students. And I don't remember too many students living in luxury apartments.

Of the 2.5 years I've lived here, there were about 2 months of time that it was technically unlivable with either no water or insect infestations. By "insect infestations," I'm referring to fleas from the previous tenant's dog. Although I could possibly excuse the staff for not realizing there were fleas, there was fur literally covering all of the carpets, which I believe is inexcusable. Maintenance concerns are never addressed, and I'm speaking of huge issues like sewage water filling my bathtub and sink and my neighbor's toilet overflowing and flooding my living room. When my neighbor's toilet flooded my living room, nobody bothered to notify me or check on my apartment. The same issues happen for at least a half week before the problem is corrected because the maintenance people are incompetent, and management refuses to hire outside help. When seven apartments had their tubs filled with standing sewage water, maintenance went to Home Depot for a pipe snake. I'm no plumber, but a PIPE SNAKE to correct the sewage problems of an entire building?! Don't let the fancy office and outdoor areas fool you; they're all a facade. The only parts of the apartments that were renovated were the countertops and doorhandles, not more important things like pipes and cables. (Good luck to those wanting Internet! I know my apartment can't sustain a connection.) Oh, and if you're thinking of living here because you can use the fitness center, be forewarned the most of the machines haven't worked for YEARS, and I'm not using that word figuratively. The business center is no longer because management forgot the password to the computers, and half of the washers/dryers don't work properly. Luckily there is a new, huge complex headed by a great (my opinion, I don't work for them) management company being built next door. Scheduled completion is July!

They will try to screw you out of every dime they can. They are incompetent and oftentimes they're just flat out rude. Don't expect them to hurry to fix any of the problems you have or to clean up after themselves they've entered your apartment. Three of our neighbors had their apartments broken into in broad daylight. The parking lot floods everytime it rains. My shower wall fell in on itself and the shower head is rusty which causes the tub to turn yellow. My sink has stopped up and overflowed several times. My electricty has gone out multiple times and no one came to fix it for days. The washers and driers are constantly broken. You can hear EVERYTHING your neighbors are doing because the walls are so thin. You can also smell your neighbors through the vents. The fixtures and carpet are very cheap. Please don't waste your money here.

I've lived here for almost 3 months now, and have next to no complaints. It's affordable, in a great location, and all of the bathrooms/kitchens have recently been updated (except for the appliances). They have free laundry on-site in multiple locations. The closest one to me is only 20 feet away. I also have a tiny porch for my apartment due to its location in the building (some of the upper floors have balconies). Great stuff. Office hours are pretty good (open till 6 most days), they just conflict with my work schedule. The good weekend hours make up for it though. They are also pet friendly. I knock it down a star only because it's not exactly a five-star joint. Also I can't seem to split up rent on their online payment system. It's either all or nothing, which can be a pain if you have a roommate (which I do). I have not required any maintenance yet, but they do send "inspectors" every now and then that change your air filter and check your running water, air conditioning, etc. I thought that was nice. Another thing I wish they had is an outgoing mail box...all of those tiny mailboxes for each apartment but no outgoing mail? That is extremely disappointing. All in all a good place, I'd recommend to anyone. There seems to be a mix of young families and college students mostly from what I can tell. There are similar complexes on Brompton that give it a "community" feeling. I actually looked at the one across the street and they wouldn't return my call for putting a hold on an apartment, which they ended up leasing to someone else. I tried this place and the leasing office people were great.

First, the apartment is very old, don't be fooled by the new paints, it only covers up bad things under. Second, the management is Horrible, I lived there before and moved out, they send me a bill for balance, I paid in full, I thought its over. TWO YEARS later, they send me a another bill for several hundered dollars, and threaten to turn to Collecting Agency to ruin my credit If I don't pay. I am going to fight them in Court, these bunch of Rats !
