I've lived here for a couple months now and the apartments are very nice and clean for such a good price! There was only one time where we needed to call management about our oven and they were super helpful as always and sent someone to check it out the next day. I highly recommend these apartments.

I lived elsewhere in Carbondale, and the staff at Brookside cannot be matched. They are always friendly and helpful. Whenever I have repair issues, the staff quickly comes to repair the problem. I highly recommend living at Brookside.

*Have not lived here. Pretty pricey for what you receive, buildings are dated.

When I first moved in early summer '09, there was one decent office worker--and the rent was a little bit highly priced--but all utilities are included and they allow pets. I had two labs, a cat, and snake in my 1 bdrm apartment. They fired a couple of managers in the time of my 1 year lease, and seem to finally have someone that is competent I suppose. They recently built a 'dog park,' or a decently sized, fenced-off area. The first dislike I really have is the parking. Having guests over late doesn't normally work unless you plan it out a day before or early in the day. Plus it's a dollar for 1 guest parking sticker. But mainly after 9 pm or so it's hard to find a spot near my building, and I sometimes have to park across the lot or in another one. It's probably just my personal preference, but having privacy in general isn't that common here. I live on the second floor and can hear my neighbors below me when they cough, the next door one in the bathroom and closet. And they installed 2 smoke detectors for a total of three all together, and they are near each other as well. They have upgraded apts but they're more rooms and much more expensive. IT'S BETTER THAN MOST OF THE RENTAL PROPERTIES IN THE CARBONDALE AREA.

I honestly am not sure what people are bitching about; yeah, the place could use an upgrade and some remodeling. It's not the most "happening" place to live but come on... it was built in the seventies. They still hand out warnings about lead-based paint, even though there isn't any anymore. The parking does suck; the lots are small and narrow, and it's difficult to maneuver at times if you have a larger vehicle. The laundry facilities are small, but open 24/7 although someone let their kids tear up the adjoining hallway at some point or something, so now they lock those doors every evening. So if you need to do laundry after the office closes, make sure you have the quarters in-hand. The cable isn't anything to write home about, but how many places in Carbondale include cable in the rent and actually run it to the apartments? Not many that I've seen. The walls are thin, but then again what apartment DOESN'T have thin walls? Really, I've been living in Carbondale for about five years now, and Brookside is the best place I've stayed so far. Despite the appearance being somewhat outdated, everything is functional and you're getting your money's worth. If you're renting a one-bedroom, you're getting an apartment with a dining room, a kitchen (albeit small), a living room, and a hallway with a bathroom and bedroom. And closet space! I've never seen a place with so many closets. And for $675/mo, it's the cheapest place I've ever lived. Before I moved here, I was paying almost $600/mo. anyway for an apartment that was nothing more than a glorified studio with an extra room attached for a bed. And no utilities were included. Moving to Brookside lowered my cost of living by almost $100/mo. and I feel like it's been well worth it. In fact, I just recently renewed my lease for a third year. The staff is friendly, the landscaping is gorgeous, the pathways are well-lit at night and you don't feel as if you could be shot, stabbed, or raped at any given moment. Food places don't refuse to deliver here for fear of being mugged. All-in-all, I would definitely recommend this place.
