Very Frustrating. lived there for two years and they doubled our rent on the second year and then to negotiate they brought it down but instead of paying close to the same price as the year before, they added 200$ more and said that was as low as they could go. They made us pay 50$ for something we didn't even use for the whole 2 years. Never told us that cable was included and so for 6 months of lease paid for cable company for cable that was already part of the lease instead of just internet. Moving out was the biggest nightmare of my life. Had a few small burn marks in a localized area that could be taken out in a square instead of replacing whole carpet of the entire apartment and charge 600$ for it. Then when it came to the bill of charges when leaving, I never received a bill through the mail even though they had the right address and I wasn't able to log onto the site to pay online and see bill on my account. Me and my former roommate split up so they had two addresses to send to and two accounts that could log on and my roommate didn't receive any mail and wasn't able to log on either. Called several times and got no answer from the office, then left several voice-mails and no one called back. By the time I got through to someone my account went to collections. They told me that mailed the bill out and that i got an email and that i should have been able to get online from my account for 30 days after my leaving and that this was all my fault for they did everything they were supposed to do. So long story short these people don't care, they don't want to help you, anything that happens money wise is your fault. The customer service is good when they feel like it and you are in no hurry but when in need they suck. They charge you for things you don't use and cant get it off your charges. And when moving out it is a nightmare of fines and no notices. Almost forgot about mail. Packages you better hope they label it right because if not you wont get them. several times they labeled my package, which has the apartment number labeled on it by postage, as the wrong apartment so when i get a notice by UPS or FEDEX or USPS that my package has arrived and i go to the office to pick it up they cant find it due to their staff miss labeling it. i have to tell them too look at the name on the sticker label and then after 10-15 mins of searching they find it. Not worth your money

The windows are old, thin, and not energy efficient. There is enough space around the exterior doors I can see light around them. The walls and ceilings are thin and I can hear my neighbors quite easily. Someone near me smokes and I can smell it very well in my apartment (and I keep my doors and windows shut). It’s close to a state university, UNC Charlotte, so expect college students. Loud music, parties, people driving very fast through the parking lots, etc. The office has never once answered the phone when I’ve called. I’ve called from my cell, while standing in the office, and watched as (3) people ignored the call. When visiting the office expect to wait. They are not very organized and seem to be understaffed. I’ve had packages waiting in the office for weeks with no notification. Every year the rent goes up and not just a little bit. There is a mandatory $50 “MAA connect” fee added to the rent each month. You will be charged a $50 fee, every month, weather you decide to use it or not. When their system crashed the office charged me a non-payment fee and issue an eviction notice with an additional processing fee. I had to visit the office to go over my payment record and fight the non-payment charge for an account that’s been on auto pay, and in perfect standing, for the last 4 years. This has happened twice. Reoccurring monthly charges: MAA Connect ($50) Trash ($9) Pest Control ($5) Utility Billing Fee ($3.75) Water (Based on use) Pet Rent ($10 per pet) I notified the office of a leak under my sink shortly after I moved in. It took threatening to complain to a higher authority and over 14 months to fix the leak. They tore out the soggy particleboard under my sink, exposing mold, (this explains my respiratory problems while home) bleached it while I was there with my pets, and left it for days before replacing the wood. I was told they are spread thin because they are shared with another MAA community close by. They did not follow the EPA guidelines for removing mold and said their hands were tied. They could only do what they were told by management. My toilet slowly leaked. This went on for over a year (costing me more in utilities). They could not fix it and eventually replaced the toilet, but again, not willingly or quickly. If you decide to let maintenance in your apartment while you are not around they’ll usually will leave a work order for your review, but frequently do not fill in their employee info. I’ve had to clean up garbage left by the maintenance team on two occasions and didn't have a name to go with the work. There is a non-refundable pet deposit ($250 per pet) along with a $10 pet rent fee, per pet, per month. There are doggy bags in various locations throughout the property. They are frequently empty, the bins full, and dog poop all around. Along with the dog poop, you don’t have to search hard to find trash, empty cans, etc. around the property. The maintenance team is responsible for sections of the property. It looks like their workload directly reflects how clean the property stays. I frequently see entire trash bags and debris left around the property days on end. The sidewalks are covered with stains. I don’t think I have ever seen them cleaned. There is no security or cameras on property. The pool was trashed and shut down for a week (during a holiday weekend), because people put planters in the pool, emptied the fire extinguishers, and threw weights from the gym in the pool. On holidays and nice weekends I’ve met people from other properties that come here to use the pool and grills. I’ve never seen anyone check to see if the people using the amenities actually live here. The gym is often times missing weights or parts to the equipment. Kids frequently hang out in there unsupervised. I raised some of my concerns to the property manager (currently Charlene Green) and she said I'd need to fill out a form with the office if I intended to move when my lease was up. My recommendation: Stay somewhere else.

This place is terrible. The gate NEVER works, yet they have a sign posted saying they are not responsible for damage by the gate...yeah, don't worry about it because the gate is perpetually open. Also, it is not quiet, the office staff never answers the phone and packages if not delivered to your mailbox, have a huge chance of being stolen. I've lived here for a year and am counting down the days until I can move out and far, far away from this place.

Ive lived here for 5 months now. Apartments have lots of space, amenities are great, and super friendly staff in the office. However there are literally 7 speed bumps getting to my apartment. Also my apartment and the apartment below were both broken into in the same month. Other than that, these are pretty good apartments for the price.

We have lived here for about 6 months. The apartment is older, it has a very 90's feel, the fixtures are dated. However, the staff here are great, and you can schedule appointments online to have work done, if you need to. Crime to cars is pretty common, but that's also a reality of living in Charlotte, especially near the University. You need to use common sense to live in a big apartment complex safely and happily. You can have a spotlight wall painted in your apartment in one of 5 colors for $95, they do all the work of painting it and covering it at moveout. The pool is nice, it's saltwater. The gym is small and there's not much equipment. The lawns and grounds are really well kept, maybe too well kept... it seems like there's always some lawn company here. The gates are usually broken, that's one big annoyance. But it's hardly the apartment management's fault that people constantly bash the gates open with their cars. They should install cameras and start prosecuting people. There's no assigned parking, which I wish they'd have. Visitors take up a lot of spaces in the evening, and we usually end up parking away from our building if we leave after six and then come back. Most people are friendly, the average person is either a student or mid-30's professional. It's not a party complex, quiet on weekends. Getting into and out of the complex, as my friend describes it, is a nightmare. There's a dedicated turn lane into the complex if you're coming from the west off University City Blvd, which is great, but there's no lights and if you need to head eastbound, you need to go almost a mile down WT Harris before there's a break in the hwy to turn around. If it's between 5 and 6:30 pm, forget about getting out...between the daycare traffic and traffic headed to Old Concord, you might as well walk. Luckily, you have a Target right around the corner, less than a mile, and you don't need to cross any roads to get there.
