Dan is correct in everything he says in his review. Emerald Place looks great from the outside. The problems start with the construction - the entire place was prefabricated, and as such the walls are incredibly thin, and the floors are flimsily enough that walking shakes the walls. You can hear your next door neighbors having a conversation at normal volume and every footstep your upstairs neighbor takes. The insulation is extremely poor, and a non-programable thermostat is all that is provided, so heating bills are high (~$150 a month during winter). Water bills are also quite high (~$50 a month) for a two bedroom apartment with two residents. Dan is correct in noting that Unitil rates are also very high for electricity. We too are white collar college-educated professionals and expected much more. Where Emerald Place really falls apart is the management team. John and Pam are the leasing agents, and Josh is the property manager. John and Pam are both nice and cordial, but do not follow through more often than not (unreturned phone calls, lost paperwork, unreturned emails, don't answer the phone during office hours). Josh is even worse. He is rude, unprofessional, and condescending. He has no interest in solving problems, and doesn't return phone calls or emails. His unprofessionalism alone should keep you away from this complex, but paired with the thin floors and walls, in my opinion you should stay away from Emerald Place.
