These people are textbook thieves. Brigette the manager was unbelievably rude to my black roomate from day one. My mail was stolen (bank checks), my car was damaged in the lot, I was ripped off by their laundry-card system, they kept my entire deposit. The unit had rats and plumbing issues. Worse of all I was harassed on a daily basis by Brigette after the family of 4 next door complained about noise (I'm studying to be a musician and I play piano). These people made my life a living hell for 6mnths. TEXTBOOK THIEVES: Management misused the law to force us out our unit & when we countersued they dropped their case. This resulted in my being homeless and without money for another deposit at a new home, ultimately I had to drop out of the UC and move back home because of this. On Christmas Eve (when I was in SoCal with my family) they posted an unlawful detainer on our unit that would have resulted in management confiscating all of our furniture if we didn't vacate the unit within 24hrs. This was the worst experience of my life. Now a year later I'm getting billed from collection agencies for a microwave that was "stolen from the unit". These units don't have microwaves! (At least mine didn't). Don't repeat the mistake I made and settle here because of it's proximity to the UC. Their are complexes that are much more professional, comfortable, as well as cheaper in the area.

A year ago I would have said Northwood Village Apartments were great! However, since coming under new management they've continued to disappoint me. The new manager is very rude and seems like she could care less about the complex' inhabitants. Of course you wouldn't know this as a potential resident because she puts on a sweet act. I thought it was just me, but after talking with neighbors, I'm not the only one who was offended by this ruse. The parking is terrible. Getting a spot is similar to throwing a single carcass to a pack of starving wolves. The assigned spots (only one per household) are so poorly organized that you sometimes end up walking across the property to get to your doorstep. Our kitchen appliances were in disarray and damaged upon move-in and it took them a week and a half for them to do anything about it (though they'd made an appointment early on and stood us up). Every time I went into the office to remind the manager she reacted as though I was inconveniencing her by reminded her I couldn't use my oven. The toilet was in poor shape (also upon move-in) and when it broke completely they brought an outside guy in to fix it and he said all the parts in the toilet were wrong which implies either carelessness or ignorance on the part of maintenance. Had they been insignificant problems that I could do without until they were fixed it would have been fine, however that was not the case. Every time I go to the manager's office I leave feeling angry and annoyed. I was originally excited to move in because some friends lived there last year and I experienced the hospitality of the old landlords, however, I have since been unable to shake the feeling of deception. I feel as though I was tricked into a lease with promises of considerate managers and professional communication, as were my expectations. Though the location is very convenient, being near both colleges, a quick walk from two different churches, and right across the street from a grocery store, if you are concerned with the communication you may have with the management at your potential location, I recommend you consider an alternative complex.
