I lived at Poplar Place from January 2013 to July 2014. My townhome flooded twice. The first time was in February 2013. Only the carpet and underlying padding were replaced. It flooded again in June 2014. This time half of the wall around the entire downstairs had to be extracted. The carpeting, tile, and linoleum were all taken up and the two bottom steps of the stairwell were left naked and uncarpeted. Expansive areas of mold and mildew were uncovered in the process. I can't help but wonder how long said mold and mildew had been beneath the flooring and inside the walls? I also have two small children who have asthma and they were having constant flare ups. I am certain the mold and mildew were contributing factors. The toilet in the downstairs unit had to be taken up also. A month after the flooding the office was avoiding myself and tenants in the other units. Also, there was no compensation or discount on July rent for the inconvenience, nor were there any hotel accommodations made in order to make us comfortable. We were exposed to many hazardous elements during repairs. Dry wall chemicals, antimicrobial sprays and sawdust from the wall extraction. The apartment also never offered to help with the utility bill that dramatically increased as the industrial fans that were working to dry up the flood water ran constantly around the clock for days. The repair crews left empty cigarette cartons outside my door and trash from the dry wall all over the apartment. They didn't knock before the entered on many occasions. I work at night and I am home in the mornings so I always felt like my privacy wasn't being respected. Management also kept putting these pathetic ass "We're so sorry" notes on tenants door who were affected by the flooding. The notes entailed inaccurate timeframes for the anticipation of when the issues would be resolved. This went on for well over a month. Needless to say, I didn't pay June or July rent and I left. The day they tried to evict me, I had already put all of my stuff in storage (because I was sick of having saw dust on everything that was downstairs) and I was scheduled to move to a different apartment complex altogether on the following day. Also my air conditioning unit was pitiful and performed poorly and I complained about it constantly from the time I moved in. It was not replaced until 1 week before I moved out. The floors creek in the apartment and the walls are paper thin. You can hear your neighbors behind and beside you, even if they aren't making much noise. Mindy is the office manager and she is very rude. When you go to view the property they don't even accompany you to view a staged unit. They hold your driver's license and give you the key and point you in which direction to go. I regret I lived there but it was the only thing within my price range that I could afford and the neighborhood in which is located is convenient. However if you spend a bit more across the street at Kirby Station you can have a far better quality of life.
