The grounds are not kept very nicely. Paint is chipping on the outside of the buildings. The grass is not very nice and there are a lot of bare areas from people driving in the grass and people walking through it because there are not enough sidewalks. The sprinkler system leaves hard water spots on your car no matter where you park. There are a lot of dog droppings in the lawn. Also they have curbside trash pickup on Mon/Wed/Fri mornings, but people leave it out there all weekend and it kills the grass and attracts pests who break open the bags and spill out their contents. The insides of the apartments are nice except the walls are pretty thin between apartments.

I lived at the Winchester Apartments on 9th, and then moved over to the Renaissance because it was closer to Northwest Hospital, where I was working. From the moment I walked into the apartment, there were stains on the carpet, the railing on the bannister was broken, and there were a number of scratches, and chips on the walls. I noted all of these to the leasing agent, and she assured me that they would fix the problems. About 300 phone calls, and 50 in-person visits to the leasing office later, the "problems" had still not been fixed when I moved out..ONE YEAR later. In addition, I wanted to install Dish Network in my apartment, and so I called the Leasing Office again to inquire about the correct steps to take. The leasing agent told me I would need to purchase renters insurance (which I did, paying an additional $20/month for the insurance), and that the Renaissance Maintenance people would need to be present when the satellite was being installed. I complied with ALL of these requests, but when I moved out a year later, the building charged me $100 from my deposit, citing that there was a hole drilled into the balcony railing to install the satellite. By this time a new leasing agent had started, and apparently the old one did not keep records of ANYTHING.. so I called the Management Company and left a number of messages for the Manager, whose name is Casey. He never returned my calls, and eventually I got a hold of him (almost 40 calls later).. he told me that there was NO record of the maintenance people being there while the satellite was installed. I told him repeatedly that I had complied with ALL of the rules - including purchasing renters insurance, and even showed him proof. He refused to return my deposit, and was incredibly rude. In addition, he seemed aloof when I was explaining the problem to him... and it was clear either the man had the IQ of a rock, or he was not paying attention.. or a combination of the two. In addition, there were about 12 potholes in the parking lot when I moved in.. and they were still there when I moved out a year later. This is the WORST apartment building I have ever lived in. If you would like to live in a decent, well-managed building, live at the Winchester. You will end up paying about the same (maybe $30 or $40 more) but the service is GREAT.. I had NO problems during the year that I lived at the Winchester. In contrast, the Renaissance was a total rip off, and the leasing agents and management staff have no idea how to run a decent apartment complex. DO NOT LIVE HERE.
