New move in, Love it so far. great views and great staff. The security is well staffed and they make me feel very secure. It's a little pricey but well worth what you get and I'm guessing due to the higher rent you also don't have to deal with the ill mannered people that come along with cheaper housing spots. Trust me I know I lived in cheaper housing before as a student..... So far very happy, Keep it up SSOL! Hopefully the pool will be fixed by the summer!

I've lived here for a year now and the place has definitely changed since then. The sense of community is slowly disappearing due to new management. The things that make South Side, South Side are no longer as prominent. It's sad to see 10 year tenants moving out because of recent changes. Trying to make this place an uptown luxury apartment building is not what residents want. We love the uniqueness, character and diversity SSOL used to offer. I moved halfway across the country to live here, and was homeless for 10 days because of numerous areas leasing agents made. They also did not try to accommodate me in their guest lofts or allow me to store my things in their on-site storage units.

I moved into SSOL on the recommendation of other residents. It's a place to live but I'm not sure I'd recommend it, it's changed a lot. Pros: Large apartments with historical features, maple or concrete floors Mostly quiet Close to Downtown Maintenance is usually quick Great front door staff which made me feel secure but rumor is they are cutting them down Cons: The cons don't make up for the pros. Elevators are frequently out, sometimes for weeks at a time. It's not uncommon to wait six-seven minutes for the one working elevator to show up. Most windows don't actually open. Windows are drafty and when it storms, you better have towels ready to try to stop the rain that will pour in. All parking is paid. Covered paid parking is so oversold I very often can't find a place to park after 4, sometimes, even in the middle of the day it's close to impossible. No swimming pool. They SAY they have one but they started repair in the area in SUMMER so it can't be used. No access last summer either. So it's there but effectively the complex does not have a pool Dogs. Super dog friendly but way too many residents VERY often can't be bothered to pick up after their dogs. It's super common to see PILES of dog poop on walkways, sidewalks, grass. everywhere. A lot of resident's dogs will pee inside in the hallways and residents will just leave it there. The complex charges a pet rent plus a deposit and offers nothing for the fee. Pretty disgusting. Dogs again. Because they have no pet checks, there are a few very aggressive dogs in the building. If you need to take your own dogs out and the elevator opens with one of them inside, you have another long wait for the elevator to make it's way back. New manager is always running around posting long LONG letters about how he's going to fine you for every little imagined infraction. Fri and Sat night can be dodgy. There's a night club on the first floor and some really questionable people show up. I've personally been threatened by drunk, high guys while walking my dog. The new manager appears to have turned up the air temp in the hallways. It used to be comfortable in the hallways, now it's noticeably warmer. I'm planning to move out as soon as my lease is up.

Fell in love with this place 6 years ago when my son lived here and now I live here. Could not be happier with it. Wonderful staff, friendly neighbors, and always something interesting to do. Highly recommend.

I absolutely love this place. The archeticture is amazing and the story of the city is just so neat. I would love to be at that rooftop pool everyday of summer!
