Having lived in several apartment complexes throughout my college career, I can say that my experience at The Haven at Blanco has by far been the absolute worse. If you want to hear everything (and I mean everything!) that your neighbors are doing then PLEASE move here (whether this be the bath time songs coming from the children above during bath time or noises that occur during the parent’s alone time). If you want a "Courtesy Patrol" who does absolutely nothing when you call, then please move here. If you want horrible management who are unreasonable and rude then please move here. If you want snooty neighbors then please move here. If you want to wait 5 minutes for a gate to rise as you leave the complex, then please move here. If you want to hear your neighbors barking and screaming dogs at ALL hours of the day/night, then please move here. If you want to be completely unhappy and unsatisfied with where you live in San Antonio, Texas, then please move here. You can thank me later.
Lived here for over a year. We have been gone for two years and just got a call from a collection agency stating that we owed the Haven at Blanco money from when we moved out. We were never once contacted by the Haven via phone call or mail. Now our credit took a hit while we are trying to purchase a house. If they had contacted us to pay we would have. I think they are wrong for screwing us over like that. Shame on them.
Great experience living here at the Haven at Blanco. Re-signed a second year's lease. Positives: -Newer apartments so they don't have an old feeling or look old and gross -Floor plans are well drawn, better in comparison to many apartments that my husband and I looked at before we decided on this one -Location is great! You aren't too far from 1604 and 281, so it's easy to get places -It's also tucked back away from the road. You don't want to live in any of the buildings along Blanco because of street noise but there are several buildings in really quiet areas -Courtyards throughout, so we chose our apartment for access to one of these so that we could play fetch with our dog and it works great -Manager, Sarah, is really nice and you get to know the staff who are also nice people Negatives: -Other tenants often don't pick up after their pets so sometimes you cannot walk through grassy areas without having to watch your step -I asked the apartment management to get an extra doggy station to put near an area that had lots of dog poop not picked up, and I had to keep bothering them about when it was to be installed (in their favor though, they had to order it from a company and wait for it to arrive) -Tenant's guests who are not informed about how to call their friends who live here or don't care about following rules will try to follow other cars into the complex and break the arm that blocks car entry at the gate -You can hear your neighbors through the walls (but if you have ever lived in a home with your family you could probably hear your brother's stereo through the wall or your mom vacuuming downstairs at 7am on a Saturday - in which case, maybe you should rent a house so you don't have to deal with people at all) Other: They do have a valet trash service which can be good for those who don't live close to the dumpster. I personally don't like that I have to pay $25/month for it because I usually walk my trash over to the dumpster since we are close to it and I don't think this is a huge inconvenience. Some people like it though, b/c they are busy and don't want to do it themselves. It is what it is. I would recommend anyone to live here. We've been pretty happy. They change the filters and check the fire alarms on a regular basis. There are garages or carports that you may rent if you want to keep your car covered from inclement weather. The pool is pretty nice and they have a hot tub. I wanted to use the grill at the pool and discovered that whomever had used it last left half a chicken and a sausage on it for who knows how long. I think people should have to put down a deposit to use it and get it back if they leave it clean.
The guy who works there was always really nice. Kudos to him, although this was almost two years ago. I can't comment on the women who worked there because they wouldn't give me the time of day and looked at me funny, I was overweight. The construction of this so called haven is so poor. You can hear everything your neighbors are doing. The upstairs neighbor we had would literally shake the lights when she walked and it sounded like they were doing martial arts at all hours of the night. Thin walls, thin floors. The pool is a joke because there always thousands of unattended children running around and yelling and their parents are no where to be found. People feel entitled to drive super fast through the complex and leave trails of trash to the compactor.....the gate system was a joke. If you are a light sleeper, don't move here. Also, we got screws out of alot of money because they lost paperwork and couldn't communicate with each other effectively enough to honor a verbal agreement was made to us. Good riddance. Live somewhere else, you will pay too much for what you are getting here.....
Do you like waking up to the sound of your neighbors? If you do, you’ll love a second-floor apartment at the Haven at Blanco! Who needs an alarm clock when you are woken up by the sound of subwoofers and dogs running around on hardwood floors above you? Vacuuming, music, and dogs at 7am on a Saturday morning - you got it! Have a complaint? Call the out-of-state number! If you don’t like weeks of substandard sleep, you may want to rent elsewhere. I don’t know what the property manager would say… after several e-mails with no response, we finally heard from her when we threatened to go to the BBB. She said that any noise complaints have to be verified by the night crewman before anything can be done. So, when the night crewman came to investigate, his advice was basically, “let the noise go on for half an hour, and then call the out-of-state number to take your complaint, so they can call me. It doesn’t matter if it’s 12:00am, 3:00am, or 6:00am – some people are just on different schedules.” So, if you’re suddenly jolted awake at 3am on a Thursday by your drunk neighbors chasing each other around and screaming, the people you report noise violations to will just say, “aw, give ‘em a half hour,” if they respond at all.
We have a one year lease with the Haven at Blanco for a second-floor apartment from 2011-2012. They have a $20 “convenience” fee if you want to pay rent online, and they only accept one check for rent each month no matter how many roommates you have. There is a required $25/month valet trash service which incentivizes people to leave garbage outside their doors for pickup five days a week. We’ve seen children in the complex throwing rocks in the parking areas for fun, although most of them dominate the pool during the summer. Don’t believe for a minute that those gates at the entrance make you safer. We’ve frequently watched two cars come through at a time. Most of the deliveries we have never need to be buzzed in… they just follow someone else through. When my bicycle was stolen from the first-floor “rack”, I notified the front office. No word of warning went out to the other residents, even though there were other nicer bikes less secure in similar places.
Do I have anything nice to say about this place? Sure. It’s new, so the amenities and apartments are still in decent condition. If you have a maintenance problem, the maintenance crew is responsive. They allow pets. They have a tanning bed, a pool, and a fitness room. The location is geographically convenient for getting around the city, which is good, because if you sign a lease, you’ll want to be out looking for a new home.
