My friend and I moved in late spring of 2010. We had to wait a couple days because they claimed they were "fixing" the carpet. When we moved in, the carpet was not in great shape. By "fixing" the carpet, they had cut patches out of the carpet where stains were and replaced these small spots with new carpet, completely tacky. In the master bedroom, there was about a square foot of carpet with a huge stain still on the rest of the carpet around the new plot. When I started hanging my clothes in the closet, I had barely hanged any before the bracket broke off the wall. They had been poorly installed and I fixed it myself. As I was going through to put things away, there were various pieces of trash left under counters and lots of dust, obviously not cleaned very well. Even when I moved out, I found receipts from several years before I moved in from other people. When we moved in, one of the burner plates was missing from our stove. We reported it immediately, and it took 3 months before we received a replacement. The pool is disgusting. The water was left in it all winter long. When we moved in, they had just changed management. The place has dropped in quality severely from when we moved in. The people they have allowed in also became more questionable and I started feeling less and less safe. While the complex is in a nice neighborhood, friends started referring to it as the ghetto near Harber. The grass and shrubs are not upkept. Also, during the winter, there was no attempt whatsoever to clear the ice or snow from the complex. When I moved out, we left the place immaculate. Three people spent many hours scrubbing walls, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, etc. I cleaned windows, scrubbed down walls, and shampooed the carpet. We were not smokers and had no pets nor children. I read the contract very carefully and saw that I had to make a written request to receive my security deposit back, which I did. A month later, I called because I did not receive it yet and I was told that the checks had been sent out at the beginning of the month (it was approx. the 12th) and I should call again if I didn't receive it within a week. I felt this odd because I only moved 20 miles away and it certainly shouldn't take almost 2 weeks to get mail from there. I did receive a check a couple days later (the letter curiously postmarked for the 15th of the month) with only part of the security deposit returned... fees taken out for cleaning and shampooing the carpet. I'm not sure what they did with the money as I seriously doubt they did either of those after we left. So if you're going to stay there, I wouldn't bother cleaning too much when you leave since they're going to keep your money anyway. I'm very thankful to be out of there.
