Moved to Montgomery with a new job. Friendly staff with pool, gym, gated, and events in the lobby area for apartment residents. Had very few issues with the apartment. We lived in a 2 bedroom on the third floor. We were lucky to find a place we liked. I lived there for 2 years.

I've lived in several different apartment complexes in my day, and I was more or less forced into this one when I accepted a new job in Alabama, and had very little time to do research before I moved. Though they come highly recommended, this complex has some serious flaws. For one thing, they have a call center that they expect to handle most of their phone traffic, and the number for the leasing office is difficult to find. And if you do call into the office, they'll let the phone ring and ring and ring if a visitor is in the office--troubling considering some issues can't be handled by a call center and HAVE to be addressed by a staff member, sometimes during my work day when I can't visit the office in person. Every other complex I've seen tried to strike a good balance between phone service and walk-ins. Then there's the leasing staff themselves, who seem much more interested in telling you what Alabama law says than they are with actually helping you, in an experience that strongly evokes the worst aspects of visiting a bank. Now, granted this place has plenty of pros--I love the layout of my apartment, the carpet is soft, and the interior walls seem remarkably well insulated against sound--but what does all that matter, when kids run amok outside, yelling and screaming and bouncing a basketball on the edge of my building for hours at a time?

I'm single, in my mid-20s and this is my first apartment out of college. I did a great deal of research before moving to Montgomery several months ago. I read many apartment reviews and found that there was usually at least one or two very strong negative reviews for every place I looked. The Verandas at Mitylene was simply the first place I found that hadn't received any negative reviews. So naturally it was the first place I visited when I came to town. A week later I had signed a lease. I would like to say that I agree that 'luxury' seems strong unless you've seen what most apartments look like these days. The apartment I moved into was clean and basically like new. The staff people are very friendly and helpful and the amenities are as advertised. Every small service request I've made about minor repairs has been addressed within two days or less. The fact that it's gated and the gate actually closes (many gated communities seem to have an open-gate policy) makes me feel safer. The location is great - less than ten minutes from everything you'd need - East Chase shopping center, Wal-Mart and several other grocery stores and restaurants as well as several great schools and churches, but not sitting out in the middle of things. My neighbors are friendly and courteous. If you check the crime in the area you'll find that it's a very low-risk neighborhood. I have had a great experience here so far. My one complaint is that there is no way to recycle here. While the door-step trash pick-up is nice, I seldom take advantage of it and I'd rather be able to recycle plastics, aluminum, glass and paper right here in my complex rather than having to drive to the opposite side of montgomery. Over all I'd highly recommend it. It's the best you could realistically expect and the rent is reasonable (cheaper than advertised in my case) I'd encourage you to call the office and ask questions if you have any.

Kids run wild daily with no parental supervision, they have very foul language and it is embarrassing to have company over. The verandas refuse to enforce the provisions of the lease agreement regarding children requiring supervision. These apartments are becoming less desirable each month and we cannot wait to move.
