You have all the things you'd expect from a first apartment, little space, old building, annoying neighbors. But it's affordable. Lived in the Palladian for a year and a half. Pros: -Cost. Way cheaper than anything else this size in Downtown Portland. -Proximity to campus. Right across the street from some of the dorms. -Proximity to public transport. Cons: -No office or supervision living in the building. The building often smelled of smoke and people would party, fight, play music, as late as 2 am. (Pretty recent issue, only started in my last six months of the stay). -Maintenance. An issue with the building's plumbing meant that maintenance had to access the pipes behind my bathroom walls. This resulted in me having no usable shower for 2+ weeks. It's very difficult to communicate with maintenance too, sometimes you need a staff member to interpret for you. -Distance from leasing office and community center. Its about a 20 minute walk from the Palladian to the main leasing office and community center. this made it very difficult to participate in any community events and even pick up packages. And speaking of packages... -No package-size mailbox. Deliveries were constantly rejected because the mailmen had no way to access the mailbox or no safe place to leave the package. Overall, if you're just looking for that first not so great apartment that's more independent than the dorms, this is a well priced start. But if you have the money and want a decent apartment, I'd recommend looking around at the other options.

I live in the Clifton building - it's getting torn down this Summer. They let the building completely break down with no effort to fix it. Washers and dryers constantly down, water shut offs without letting us know, terrible plumbing, kitchen appliances broken. The maintenance worker let us know they have stopped fixing things because the building is to be torn down. Seriously, students still live here and it's like they forgot about customer service. So excited to be moving out. CHNW would be awesome if there was better customer service. We understand that the building is being torn down soon but you have people paying money to stay here and we expect some quality of living until we are able to find another apartment.

I have lived in CHNW for about for years, I have learned so many things from their services and staff. CHNW is home for international and domestic students so you are always surrounded by students. I was hired in their student program as a student worker and now I have grown into a full time position.

Terrible. I lived in the Clifton and since it is being torn down this summer they didn't care at all about maintenance issues or customer service period. My utilities all hardly worked and the maintenance guy just said since it's being torn down he can't fix anything. Unbelievable! Like we still live here and the people here deserve service as well! Also mold everywhere (old buildings) and the fact there were only two washers and dryers that always broke down made this place unlivable.

Even taking into account that this is student housing and has a kind of "college dorm/foreign hostel/my first apartment" kind of vibe going on, I still can't give it more than 1 star. Common areas are constantly a mess, things are always broken (like the washing machines, come on 1 washer working on a busy weekend?), the hallways and outside is obnoxiously noisy at all hours, people are allowed to smoke both right outside doorways AND IN THE HALLS, and the staff is so unprofessional it's like the owner's 12-year-old kid is running the place. If you think car lots are sleazy, live at CHNW for any period of time and you'll have a new definition for slimeballs. If you really have no other options, be sure to get every single thing in writing or make friends with a lawyer.
