Montebrier is a Carpenter Gothic Revival cottage built in 1866 for John William Mallett, Superintendent of Confederate Ordnance Laboratories, who agreed to help run the Brierfield Ironworks located nearby. The large parlor has 20 ft. ceilings along with a Wurlitzer Theatre pipe organ and custom pecky cypress bookshelves. Solid oak panels in the parlor are gothic design organ casework from a church in Selma and the custom dining room table and chairs are included with the sale. Original wide plank heart pine floors are in the bedrooms on the main level. There are 4 working fireplaces. The 12.75 acres sits on Mahan Creek and there is also a lake. A barn with tool room, large storage area and stalls for horses is included with this National Register of Historic Places property.
