North Park! RESERVED Parking. "Lower Duplex". Patio. This will NOT Last!!! - About North Park
Residents consider North Park to be one of the best hipster neighborhoods in the nation due to its cultural diversity, eclectic mix of restaurants, vibrant arts scene and central location. North Park is minutes from downtown San Diego, Balboa Park, the world famous San Diego Zoo, 32nd street Naval Base, PetCo Park, Qualcom Stadium, Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, and Ocean Beach. San Diego receives about 300 days of sunshine a year. North Park is located on an elevated plateau and although there may be fog (June Gloom) on the beaches, North Park tends to be sunnier earlier in the mornings. The weather is gorgeous most of the year! For weekend outings, the mountains, the city of Julian (an official California Historical Landmark), Mexico and the Anza Borrego Desert are all great destinations. San Diego County also has some of the best hiking trails in the nation.
Restaurants & Nightlife buzz with activity daily
North Park offers an amazing choice of restaurants; you can find Ethiopian, Lebanese, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Italian, and of course Mexican and American restaurants, just to name a few. Nightlife options include mini breweries, bars, and nightclubs. Less than 5 minutes drive to the south is downtown San Diego and even more restaurants and clubs, with many in the "Gas Lamp Quarter".
History & Culture
North Park features a recognized arts scene that includes art galleries, schools, comedy clubs and performing arts venues. "Elevated!" celebrates the art of spoken word and slam poetry, providing an open mic for anyone who has something to say. Finest City Improv hosts classes and shows so you can learn the art of improv comedy or laugh as other comedians give it their all while performing, live, on stage. Expressive Arts presents a place to transform your stress, anxieties and worries into art that can be appreciated by others. One Saturday each month, the shops, restaurants and galleries in the neighborhood participate in Ray at Night art walk, an event where residents and friends experience art, music, performance, food and drinks in locations throughout the area.
Transportation
With most shops and restaurants centrally located on University Avenue and 30th Street, walking remains one of the most popular transportation options. Bike lanes and routes on the main thoroughfares are increasing as the neighborhood progresses and make bike riding a safe and popular way to get around. If you prefer public transit, there are many bus routes and it is easy to connect to the trolley lines as well. There are parking garages near 30th and University and fees range from $2 an hour to $5 for all evening. The neighborhood is very centrally located with several Interstate and state highways, including Interstates 805, 15, 8, and 5, and highways 163, 94, and 15 nearby.
Cost
While the costs of expenses like food and entertainment remain comparable, housing costs dip significantly lower in North Park. Here a one-bedroom apartment costs about $1,695 a month, compared to the San Diego average of nearly $2,295 per month.
Shopping
The center of commerce lies in the heart of the neighborhood at the intersection of 30th Street and University Avenue. This area has all kinds of shopping, including high-end and high-value specialty shops and boutiques. Along with the Vons and Albertsons in the neighborhood, you also find smaller grocery options. At Parkside Market on Thorn Street you can find items like gluten-free pastas, bread, and craft beer. Santos Farmers Market on Lincoln Avenue has fresh fruit salads and salsas, along with ethics foods and produce. North Park also hosts a farmers market every Thursday afternoon in the parking lot of the CVS on North Park Way. Minutes away from North Park to the west, toward the Hillcrest area, are the extremely popular Trader Joe's, Sprout's and Whole Foods.
Parks and Beaches
The neighborhood boasts Bird Park, North Park Community Park, and Morley Field. Morley Field has open grassy areas to play Frisbee, football, or just bask in the Sun. North Park Community Park features a playground for the kids and a recreation center that houses basketball, tennis and handball courts. Bird Park features an open, grassy area where you can have a picnic or just enjoy the scenic views. San Diego's largest and most famous park is, of course, Balboa Park and is only 5 minutes to the South.
A mix of different Beaches abound. La Jolla Cove is a great destination for Scuba diving, snorkeling, seal watching, surfing, and swimming and is only 15 minutes to the northwest. Just South of La Jolla Cove is Pacific Beach where Surf and Sand are defined. There is the Board Walk for walks, biking, roller blading, and strolls along the surf. There are many Shops and Restaurants to complete a fantastic fun day at the Beach. Further to the South there is Mission Beach with the world's largest wooden roller coaster and several bays for jet skiing, sail boarding, and campfire pits on Fiesta Island.
