These guys are a dumpster fire. The listings are outdated, the fee's are high (15%), $100.00 application fee for each apartment, and they are complete liars. The listings on the website dont even exist. You get on their website and see all the great deals, but its a complete falsity. I am not sure how the business has lasted this long.
Showed up for an apartment viewing. The broker didn't know where the building was. When we finally got inside the building, the broker told me wouldn't be able to get into the apartment itself cause a colleague of hers had taken the key. I waited for 30 minutes as she called a bunch of people to try to retrieve the key. In the end, we never got in inside. Tha's only half the story though. I called her office to complain. Not the nicest thing in the world to do, but I felt pretty justified. The broker's boss, instead of apologizing, kept saying he and his broker were not at fault, and that I was the one who made the mistake by not showing up on time (no idea where he came up with that, I was at the apartment before the broker). Things got heated, and when I told the man that I would post a negative review online, he threatened to ruin my reputation. He called me a day later to see if I still wanted to see the apartment. I told him I'd made an appointment with someone else for the same building. He told me 'what goes around comes around' and hung up. Real classy.
I recently had the pleasure of working with Jude and Gretchen of Best Apartments. Over the course of several days, they showed me many excellent options despite my limited schedule. They both were always professional, helpful, and responsive. Although the market is clearly super busy and competitive, these two and their coworkers made me feel that my business was top priority. I would happily work with them again!
If you are looking for an apartment in NYC I would highly recommend working with best apartments. Before them, I worked with Bond, and did not have the best experience. They had a horrible database with no apartments to choose from. And lazy/pesamistic brokers that did not want to help The brokers at Best apartments narrowed down the criteria, and showed me great apartments within my budget. I had AMAZING ones to choose from. In the end, I could not be happier with my final choice. I am moving into my first apartment in NYC and it is a dream! I will definitely work with best apartments when it is time to find my next place. -Valentina Carrillo
Be wary. Zibby contacted me in response to my inquiry about an east village apt. She stated that it was company policy to have me come to the office first and then she would show me apartment. Since other brokers aren't doing this I asked about meeting at the apts first and then filling out paperwork when I was interested. She said no as she stated it was company policy. I called her office and spoke to her manager. Not only was the apartment already taken days ago, but that is not their company policy.
