I've lived at Shelard Village for years and it has been a good place to live, mostly. I'm moving this summer because of the manager, Mary. Everyone else who works at the office is friendly, professional, and helpful, but Mary makes living here miserable. She speaks very condescendingly, and uses accusatory phrasing even when being asked a question (like "do I have any packages", or letting her know a washer isn't working) with a smile on my face. I thought for the longest time something about me, personally, triggered her rudeness, but I recently spoke with some neighbors and every one of them had similar experiences with her. Today I saw the other reviews online, just confirming the problem is all hers. Beyond that my apartment was due for upgrades (carpet, paint, light fixtures, etc), which I've had to remind her of several times, and a year later I'm still waiting on a few upgrades - it's not worth her attitude to mention them again to her. I'm sure she'll make it MY fault they didn't happen. Another problem that emerges is that residence avoid letting her know of maintenance issues because nobody wants to invite unjust confrontation. Aside from Mary, the grounds are kept clean, the pool is great, being close to Shelard park is wonderful, and the location is about as perfect as can be for convenient driving. Parking is very limited, and they recently reduced the visitor parking down to only 3 spaces and is quick to tow. I understand that we can get a guest pass, but the office is closed periodically throughout the day, so that can be difficult. There's laundry on each floor so you rarely have to wait for a machine, which is nice. The building is also generally pretty quiet, and maintenance is fast to respond to requests. My hope is that Mary is replaced and Shelard Village will go back to being a great place to live in.
Stay away! I agree with others. Worst place to live in! I have live in 3 different places for last 10yrs and here for couple of months now, i must tell this has been the worst. To start with office people are horrible to deal with. rude, arrogant at time and with least supportive with any problems you are facing. They will say things on your face like a robot. You are welcome here until you get the keys. After that you'll always be talking to a stone wall with robotic response. I had almost argue to turn on the heat at the start of the winter. They wont turn it on letting me get catch cold two weeks in a row and finally i had to complain with the city. This complex doesn't come with enough parking. As common parking is first come first serve, its full by evening. If you live in a two bedroom and have two cars, good luck with that!. I've heard multiple neighbor's guests cars towed with unheard of excuses costing them $475 per instances. Water is very smelly and we get all sorts of stuff in it at times. This building is old and leaks all the time. Stopped using tap water. AC will shut off you are trying to use it during the summer as they can't take the load. The freezer stopped working once and when called the management a guy came and he was so rude i asked him to leave. He was just upset that he had to come during the weekend to repair it. They are always trying to find a way not to help you and try to find a way to get money out of you to repair in the apartment, which they should take care. Worst is to deal with all these with the management. This could have been the best complex, but the people in the office and the management made it already unbearable and unwelcome to live here.
You've been warned. This is the first apartment we've moved into and it's been 2 months and I've already dealt with a few problems and it wasn't handled the way I'd hoped. I've heard the horror stories about how Apartment management works and they weren't lying. When you have a problem, they will blame you for it and say it's normal. They never try to take the time to find out if it could have been their mistake and if you catch them lying they will deny it. My a/c nor heater worked when I first moved and they claimed it's normal (yeah answer that) And now I have this random taping noise which we can't sleep to or wake up to and the first thing she(Mary) said is that it isn't loud for her. They keep defending them selves right away. If you deal with Mary, good luck, she is rude and terrible to deal with. She will reply in scripts, and doesn't even think. The whole time it's like she's reading of a script. Fake apologies.. I love the location of this apartment and that it was newly furnished, however the management here is terrible (Mary to be specific) Paula has been very helpful and nice and I wish I only had to deal with her. Well I'm stuck here until my lease ends(Glad I paid extra for a shorter lease) and then I'm done with this place.
I used to live here(3 years) and loved it.. I then moved to a cheaper apartment to save money..bad idea to say the least. I actually just moved back into shelard because I missed it!! I love everything about Shelard!! Quiet neighbors, amazing staff, lovely apartment ,heated parking garage, and a pool! Worth it :)
