New manager is doing great things to turn around the mess he was left!
The previous landlords were stealing resident's rent. This left numerous residents without proof of rent payment. The apartments are in absolutely terrible repair. The windows are rotting to the point that they leak. The floors are so damaged they shift dramatically underfoot. The entire building has a moisture problem which has resulted in black mold. They failed their health and safety inspection on many occasions. The cabinets are so small they are unusable, and one has a latch made from a screw and some bracket. The linoleum was peeling up on the first day I moved it, they have refused to fix it. My AC broke twice, the second time they refused to fix it. The door was kicked in on the day I moved in, I was able to get them to repair it after numerous threats. However, the "handy man" hung the screen door wrong and now no longer fits properly. The drive way is full of craters. The gutters are broken causing water pool up right next to the foundation. They posted a note stating they had the right to enter the apartment at any time for a length of two months, despite Iowa law stating the opposite. They began showing apartments four months prior to the end of the lease, and did not post the required 24 hour notice. In short, it's a travesty that these slum lords were not shut down during health and safety inspection. Do not move here. If you live here, I suggest documenting all of the problems in your apartment and starting a class action lawsuit.
The worst moving experience of my life. Don’t be fooled by the mild-mannered person at the office. The management is horrible. They are running a switch and bait operation!!! I would take them to small claims court if I had the resources and know how. He showed us an average looking second story room promising an exact apartment but instead on moving day assigned us to the most disgusting and pathetic basement room imaginable!!! I was completely shocked to find the entire basement corridor and our room reeking of cigarette & pot smoke plus moulds & moisture. The carpet was sticky and stained everywhere. The toilet refused to flush, the sink was disgusting. And it remained exactly the same even after his so called clean up operation that would transform the place. We were forced to give up the $625 deposit even though we had not yet signed the lease because we had signed the application form. Please be careful and know what you are signing up for before you sign the lease at Westbrook Terrace Dungeons.
The apartments are great and the new apartment manager is awsome
I think it's a pretty decent apartment for the price and service. Most of the utilities are paid by the landlord (even including GAS HEAT so that helps during winter time!!) and on-site managers are very friendly and helping. The only thing I got frustrated was that there is only one technician available and it takes such a long time before something gets fixed. If you know how to fix some basic stuff, this is the one for you...
