I lived here for a little over two years and found the complex to be adequate for my needs in relation to my work and social life. The building was fairly quiet in terms of not having a rowdy younger crowd. It had your typical apartment noise in that I could hear people to the sides and above me talk/sneeze/cough/laugh etc. Most days/nights that common apartment noise wasn't a bother. There is quite a bit of noise from the train tracks off of Park Glen Road. The train comes twice daily usually at 7:30 AM and 5:30 PM so it makes your commute a pain if you get caught. There is a TON of truck/car noise on Park Glen Road going to and from the warehouse/office complex at the end of Park Glen Road. I would say that truck/car noise bothered me the most. The apartment is in desperate need of modernization. I went through two fridges while there because they appeared to be from the mid 1980's and broke down. Most of the appliances I've seen in my place and others within the building where just as old. They work ok, but not great. Maintenance requests where usually done on time. I did have more than one occurrence where I had to hound the building manager for help. The maintenance staff were very friendly when they came into my apartment or I passed them in the hall. Parking was ample and if you have underground it's very well kept. The apartment managers, I had two while there, were both very unpleasant to deal with. They were both very neglectful to requests, conversations and general help in regards to my apartment. This was not a major impact on my daily life there, but during those key moments when I interacted with them they did so in an unprofessional and lazy manor. I'm most dissatisfied with yearly rent increases I experienced while living there. It was one of the factors in my decision to leave Walden Woods. I was also very displeased with the checkout process when I did leave. I expected some dings against me in the process, but never have I felt more nickel-and-dimed by a complex in all my years of renting. A word to the wise, hire a professional to go over your apartment if you expect your full deposit back. In all the place was decent, but I would never recommend it to a friend.
Background: I've lived here since November of 2011, with two roommates in a two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit. Pros: * The building isn't falling down * The location is nice from a commuting standpoint (near the intersections of 100 and 7) * Right on several walking/biking trails * Water-heat-trash-sewage are covered. * Tenants are, for the most part, young and friendly Cons: * Only some units have parking spots underground (1 per unit for those that do) * No thermostat control of heat or cooling (very old equipment for both) * Service calls are seemingly either ignored or they are completed with extreme reluctance * Management is awful. To expand upon this: they are completely unreachable by office hours, as the manager tends to just be gone during the posted business hours (often taking multi-hour lunches); they are extremely slow at turning around email communications; they do not have any real knowledge of the operations of the building, both from a business standpoint and from a practical standpoint; they rarely are able to accept packages (of which I've had several important ones turned away, sent back, late, etc.); the office is basically shut down on Wed (meaning no packages, no service, etc). * The workout room shares space with the "hot tub" (it's really a rehab type warm tub that's used for retirement homes and the like) Overall: I will both never live here again, nor would I encourage anyone I know to live here. The prices are not competitive enough to warrant the short-comings in both service and facilities. I would definitely encourage prospective tenants to look elsewhere.
Had some problems with management when I first moved in.. Took 5 months to resolve the issues. The place is ok to live and the area is very nice.
Great apartment complex! We've lived at Walden Woods since May and love the location--close to everything yet tucked away near a nature preserve. We see wildlife--deer, turkeys, geese, turtles--quite often. The building itself is well-maintained and service requests are usually completed quickly. We almost never hear our neighbors. Some of the rental websites advertise a pool--not sure why, because there isn't one. But there is a fitness center with a hot tub and sauna.
Great apartment! I have never had any issues with management or any maintenance issues! Very affordable and in a convenient location! I love my place and have been there for two years now! Very spacious for what you pay! Very quiet building with friendly residents. A hidden gem!
