My husband and I got officially married on Nov 15th 2013, but where going to have our wedding celebration on June 29th 2014. Unfortunately, with the sudden and tragic passing of my Father on May 15th, 2014 the wedding had to be moved to the following year. In the midst of all the funeral chaos, I had to contact the wedding vendors and beg them to give us credit for the amount we had already paid for the following year and a new date yet to be determined. All the vendors agreed, they where all wonderful except The Dumbo Loft. When I called and told Chris about what had happened, he said unless he can rebook the space, we can't get our money back. We did not want our money back, we wanted the date to be moved to the following year. To any date in June they might have available...but he said no. Then, my husband and I tried to reason with Chris, this is a business after all, and asked him if he could at least move the deposit or at least part of the deposit over to next year so we did not have to look for another venue and I can grieve my Father's death in peace....but he still said NO! I even emailed him a copy of the death certificate so Chris would not think that we are trying to pull a fast one.....but he STILL SAID NO! Thankfully, we found a clause in the contract that said that a $1,000 was due back to us for any rentals we might have paid if we cancel so we where able to get that back, but we are officially out $3,000. BUT! That is ok because we have a new place that we love, for the month of June, and karma is a, well, you know....
The Dumbo Loft is a ground level event space located at the corner of Pearl and Water, in Dumbo. As other reviewers have mentioned, the space is appealing. High ceilings, large windows, exposed brick. The venue could be left as is, or decorated to suit the event. It's definitely a space I would consider using, or recommend to others. Too bad there aren't more restrooms!
I visited this evening for a Digital Dumbo / Google City Experts event. It's a nice venue. Loft space is rustic, but not outdated. Despite there being a pretty packed room the sound acoustics weren't too bad. It looks like a nice place to hold private parties and events. In fact, I'm inquiring about their pricing and may consider it for my wedding!
This is a pretty spacious venue/hall and went for one of the Digital Dumbo events which was held here. As long as you use it as a loft, you'll get the most out of it. Hardwood flooring and exposed brick give it a nice homey and warm feel to it. There are some good local bars in the area as well, so if you have to come here for an event, you can get started early and finish late.
My first time in this venue to check out an event put on by Digital Dumbo. Love the floors, the brick, the windows, location, and I'll let you know if the bathrooms disappoint!
