I definitely recommend reading the fine print with Vantage Point because it can cost you quite a bit of money if you don't. I found the leasing consultants to be welcoming and friendly; they addressed the concerns that I had over an abundant number of negative Yelp reviews I saw online. At the end of the email, the leasing consultant wrote: "If you do decide to change your mind then we will return that $175 holding deposit to you. We also have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee here as well. If for any reason you are not satisfied with your apartment when you move in then we will let you out of your lease with no penalties at all." After being approved for the apartment, I found another building closer to my workplace. Unfortunately, buried several paragraphs down in the online application's fine print section is a "24-hour" time limit to ask for a refund of the holding deposit. I emailed the building two days later unaware of the policy and was denied a refund. The initial email I received (above) didn't mention any time limit nor did any other documents or emails I received. I felt taken advantage of and some of the one- and two-star Yelp reviews started to make more sense. I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from renting here, just understand that there's a lack of transparency when applying to rent in the building and the primary focus appears to be on profit over customers. This review is a PSA to other prospective renters not to make the same mistake I did and hopefully save you some money.
If there were a way to give negative stars, I would. After living at Vantage for nearly a year, I can sincerely say that it is one of the most poorly run organizations around, with the sole purpose of taking advantage of their tenants. DO NOT MOVE HERE!!! My biggest complaint comes from the pillaging that takes place upon move out. I lived at Vantage for only 8 months, and due to active duty military obligations, had to relocate. I organized the move out inspection where one of the maintenance guys told me everything looked great, and that I'd have to pay $90 to clean the place to their standards. Having lived in over 10 apartment buildings in my career, this was an accepted standard practice that I agreed and signed for. Then 2 weeks later, I received a bill for over $1200!!!!! This included, among many egregious errors, a "full paint" and "full floor refinish". When I expressed concern for these charges, I was provided a copy of the document that I had signed with CLEAR ADDITIONS to the paperwork for the "work" that needed to be done in all different kinds of handwriting. When I offered to have the discrepancies corrected by a contractor that I trusted, they stated that they had already done the work, and that I was responsible for the hefty bill. SHADY PRACTICES to say the least! In addition, their customer service is atrocious. They'll make you feel like you're a part of the family when they're collecting your security deposit and rent check, but other than that, it's IMPOSSIBLE to get any kind of help with your unit once they get their money. I paid over $3200 per month to have trash in my hallways, loud music blaring at all hours, and common areas that looked like the aftermath of a frat party at all times. And when you call to voice your concern, good luck getting through to anyone. I developed an intimate relationship with their voicemail service. Shocking as it seems, I never once received a callback. All the other complaints on yelp are 100% true. From the horrible elevator slow-downs/breakdowns, to the broken glass around the pool, to the nonfunctional, filthy BBQs, to the smell of urine around the building and in the elevator, to the awful parking situation (I was promised 2 reserved spots for my 2 bedroom apartment...they routinely had someone else parked in them...and, no surprise, not a soul would help with that matter). On the surface the place seems great, and I have to admit, that some of the front desk staff and leasing agents are very well intentioned. Rachel and Janae were outstanding, very friendly, and as helpful as they could be. The real problem lies in the seedy, slimy, rotten core hiding behind the facade. Equity Residential is nothing more than a big corporation with the goal of ripping off a poorly represented public. I MUST SAY AGAIN...DO NOT MOVE HERE!! And if for some reason, you find yourself living here now, MAKE SURE to take photos of EVERYTHING before you move out, and get copies of everything you sign. Otherwise, expect them to find a plethora of creative ways to stick it to you on your way out the door. Classy, Equity Residential.

We have lived here for almost a year now, We were new to San Diego and the beautiful exterior, spacious lobby, and beautifully designed apartments caught our eye and we decided this was the place for us. Well, its very true to say that beauty is only skin deep. Within the first month or two we started experiencing problems. First, the dog park downstairs constantly smells. Since it's located right out front of the entrance to the building, its not very inviting when you are trying to have guests over, or are on your way home from a long days work. Second, the parking garage was poorly manufactured. There is almost no space for 2 cars to be able to maneuver comfortably down there. I constantly see people nearly colliding with each other on there way in and out of the parking structure. When you are finally parked it is an easily 80-90 degrees down there constantly, and with groceries and sometimes an almost 15 min elevator wait, it is ridiculous. The elevators pose as another problem. Sometimes it can take up to 15 minutes to catch an elevator, not to mention at least 2 of the elevators permits, are a year or two expired. Hanging in plane site in the elevator. The rooftop pool is nice however, it closes at 10pm, a little too early if you ask me. The front lobby receptionist is very rude, a few of them. I've constantly have had problems with 2 particular women that run the desk sometimes, and a few of my guests who have came to visit, have as well. Chris is wonderful, hes very polite, helpful, and kind. Last but not least the customer service here stinks. my carpet has been coming up at the seems where my linoleum and my patio door meet and I have requested 3 times at least to have this problem taken care of, This STILL hasn't been fixed. We pay a little over, 2,100$ a month to live here and I say its money wasted. If I were you, I would take your money else where.
This review is mainly for the customer service we have received upon deciding to move to Vantage Pointe and signing our lease. The consultant who showed us the apartments was knowledgeable about the building and was honest about some of the shortcomings. We were treated with the utmost respect from all of the staff in the main office. We will not be returning to San Diego (from the East Coast) until we move our apartment in July and were able to set up our IKEA delivery without problems. Again, all staff members were respectful and the general manager was incredibly helpful.
