Rising above neighboring buildings, The Historic Hillcrest still maintains the same presence it assumed upon its completion in 1929. Its dominance is derived of two contributors. First, the remarkable design of Hillcrest in the second renaissance revival style with influence taken from the Mediterranean style makes the building distinct to all of Toledo. Second is the role that Hillcrest has played in the history of the city. For years this property was the center of Toledo culture and social life. Well known for its elegant appointments, The Hillcrest was a destination not just for the many authors, artists, and business people who frequently visited, but also for celebrities. In 1933 Amelia Earhart visited the hotel, and as part of her campaign to assist pilots in locating the local airfield, painted a huge arrow on the roof. Today, The Hillcrest is a historical landmark that offers unique, large apartments. The resurrection of this landmark has made it possible for a new generation to call The Hillcrest ""home"".
