My wife and I had a great experience with Bay Village. We lived at Bay Village for nearly 3 years. The actual place is very well kept and if you ever have a maintenance issue, Jim is typically there by the end of that day to fix the issue. We also had a very good experience with Mary Anne. She was incredibly reasonable throughout the three years. She even went out of her way to congratulate us when we had our first child. I highly recommend Bay Village to anyone looking for a comfortable, well located place in Whitefish Bay.
DO NOT RENT FROM BAY VILLAGE! So as it turns out, I rented a townhome at Bay Village for 1 year with my girlfriend and good friend / roommate. We are very responsible, well kept people and have been renting around the East Side now for 10 years. Even though I'm 27 (roommates approx. same age) we were treated condescendingly as children by Mary Ann, the rental manager for the properties. Upon move in, we were greeted with an uncleaned unit (I hope they didn't charge the previous tenants for cleaning, because they surely didn't do it themselves!), which we spent approximately 5-6 hours working on upon move in. And the worst of it was the cabinets in the kitchen which had shavings on the inside of them that closely resembled an animal problem. A few weeks later, and over the span of a month, we end up catching 8 mice. Even though this rodent infestation was obviously there upon our move in, which we informed management about, it was not handled at all. We were told to buy traps and deal with it, even though they had pest control services (which did end up coming over, but only to place more traps which did nothing). Issues such as neighbors who sounded like they were beating their kids, parking issues left and right, and unresponsiveness to maintenance requests really left us with a bad taste in our mouthes. To top it all off though, was that everytime we had an issue with something, Mary Ann tried to say that it was our fault and would argue with us about it needing to be fixed; in addition to the fact that we had to go through a "preliminary" walkthrough and a final walkthrough, by which she tried to come up with ways to charge us for every little thing (wait, even though we spent 5-6 hours cleaning the place after moving in???? does that make sense?!?!). Overall, terrible management (never met anyone that unprofessional), and terrible experience x2. Would never rent there again, would never recommend renting to a friend. Save your money and the headaches that come along with loosing it to such a terrible property and rent somewhere else. Note to Karademas (Management company that owns the property): Find some new management and there may be better reviews. Additionally, inform your managers that it is highly unprofessional to take written complaints to the neighbors and call them out (we were approached by our neighbors asking if we complained about them because Mary Ann told them we did - I've never heard of any property manager using actual names of the complainers to those being complained against - that is a confidential issue that could result in domestic cases... save yourself the legal trouble!)
What other have said take it to heart. We have lived here now almost 2 years and I think Mary Ann is getting more crazy by the month. She drives around in her little SUV at all times of the day to find things that you are doing wrong. We have one neighbor who moved in near to us and doesnt work. She will call the office with every little complaint (we pulled my car onto the grass to get near our entrance to unload a heavy object and within 5 minutes moved my car) I Mary Ann was driving her car around later that night and stopped me to tell me that I cant do that. Another example is how our dog had horrid diarrhea when it was thunder storming out one afternoon and we got a call that we needed to go wash it off the grass (It was already raining?!) DO NOT live on the corner of anita and chateau you will meet our horrible neighbor who has nothing better to do than call you in and Mary Ann will call you about every little thing. She does make everything your problem to fix. Overpriced!
I'm stunned at the reviews below because nothing could be further from our experience at these apartments. We live in a remodeled unit and it is absolutely beautiful. Any time I've requested assistance with repairs, which has been few and far between, management has arranged to have someone fix it the same or next day. My neighbors are wonderful; one never hears excessive noise (either from inside or outside the units), and it's a quiet neighborhood, positioned ideally for someone who works downtown and wants to limit a commute to fifteen minutes each way. Finally, we deeply appreciate that we are able to live with our pets here; very, very few rental opportunities allow animals and we consider ourselves extremely lucky to have found such a peaceful, quality, well-built home surrounded by others who treat their properties as if they owned them.
It seems like a nice enough place.... not a bad value. However, a professional management staff is clearly lacking. I read MULTIPLE negative reviews concerning a Mary Ann who is the main rental manager. I decided to disregard then since they were most likely from a disgruntal renter. I was wrong to do so. My basement was in standing water at least 5 times (just like the other reviews spoke of). My fiance and I had to pay to buy a dehumidifier and run it non-stop (amounted to a high electrical bill) and also deal with the awful smell from the standing water that the maintenance staff looked at, but for some reason decided not to clean up or shampoo after it finally dried up 3 weeks later. The management was very disappointing in how they handled this situation. It is something we struggled with for the 2 years we lived there. The management seemed to be on the defensive the few times we called them in need of a minor repair. I think we called them at most 6 times the 2 years we lived there. Our next door neighbor lived there 4 years and expressed a strong dislike for Mary Ann in particular (professionalism is clearly lacking in management) on the first day we moved in. When we moved out, they came up with any reason possible to keep our deposit. They were a real class act to the end.
