When I first moved in the rent was reasonable. There was an interesting exchange regarding the whereabouts of the ice maker was. As it turned out the maintenance man left 2 used ice cube trays. The appliances where literally, approximately 30 years old. When using the dishwasher you would need to turn up the TV. There have been a number of seedy tenants living there with many tenants unaware they even lived in an apartment building with 74 other families. Some were very rude when it came to noise and from time to time would bring roaches with them. There eventually was a replacement of two of the three appliances. With more old used ones. There were multiple promises to clean the carpet which never happened. The AC and Heat is a joke with that mechanical closet located in your living room. The AC would get the room too cold then the heat and humidity would come in from that closet and warm it up. The heat worked the very same way. The temperatures were always up and down. Nothing comfortable. The maintenance went down hill fast. After about the first 1 1/2 years it took more and more complaints to get something repaired. As far as the utilities go the water, sewerage and gas (during the winter) were all on one bill that you will pay an outside company to estimate your bill. Then charge you what they think you should be paying. On water you pay based on Sq. footage regardless of how much you used. Gas, only is paid in the winter. Gas and water were always estimated and you can be assured you will pay more than your fair share. I was out of town on business, once for 7 weeks. I paid same amount during my absence that would have paid being there. Conserving only helps those with the high bills. Utility wise I'm very conservative and my water bill was close to $30 a month. and the gas bill was never accurate, though supposedly metered. The last two years saw only estimate gas bills. Parking will always be an issue when occupancy is high. You will find vehicles sitting for months with flat tires or obviously not moved. There will also be a number of multiple car families that take up prime parking spots without a thought to moving 2 of 3 behind the building. So plan on parking to be an issue. I was also welcomed with unreasonable price hicks in rent every year. The last renewal period for 12 months would work out to one of the highest rates offered on a lease. The cheapest rate for a one bedroom was now at $1184. The last two years saw rate hikes of $100 each. There are 5 washers and 5 dryers for 74 apartments. Take a look at your new front yard. Be familiar with the immediate area as well. Recommendation .......... Skip it and find another place even if you pay more.
