Had a horrible experience with them while apartment hunting. Booked a 2 bed apartment by giving holding fee of around 550 bucks and then get a call from them after couple of weeks saying the apartment is not available as the tenant has planned to continue the lease. They said its a rare scenario but that rare scenario happened with us twice in a month with charter oak/fairway apartment. In one of the cases we even received welcome letter from them. Caused lot of inconvenience, multiple trips to meet the manager and stuff. They should at least mention the caveat before taking the holding fee.

I love my apartment. It was wonderful that is was extremely clean when I moved in. The staff quickly gets things fixed. One of the reasons I moved her was because the staff was very nice and helpful. I have recommended charter oak to the people I work with. I never want to move from my apartment.
Most of the negative reviews seem to come from people who took no action to fix anything they deemed wrong. I've been living here for nearly a year and find it perfectly reasonable, especially for recent graduates. We just resigned and are paying $50 extra a month, not the $300 nightmare rate one reviewer mentioned. As far as parking goes, each unit gets one dedicated space and the free reign with 'permit only' spots. This can be aggravating if those are filled up, but I fortunately live right near North Shore so at most it's an extra two minutes to get to my door. I've had friends stay with me all weekend and as long as we got a permit from the office there was no problem from towing companies. Utility bills fluctuate widely from summer to winter months. All unit utilities are pooled and then split evenly, leaving people who are out of the house at work all day to pay a share of those who stay at home, but this results in only $30-$40 more in the winter months for utilities. The neighborhood has been noisy on the occasional weeknight, but hey you live in an apartment complex with 400+ other people. It happens. Overall, I'd recommend Charter Oak to anyone looking to move out of their parent's home or for an affordable place in general. The staff has been friendly and helpful to me (possibly because I'm friendly back?) and the location is nearly unbeatable. 3.25/5
During the hideous last storm we had, I was trying to clean off my car. I fell once, slipped on the ice as well, and then discovered that my driver side front tire was flat as a pancake! I went down and talked with Shannon in the office and she called maintenance and Lee came and changed the flat for my spare. I had a big piece of cardboard to put down so he wouldn't get wet and my instruction book handy and he did the best job. The spare was a little squooshy too, but I got to the Lake Anne gas station and got it filled with air. I was able to get in to the shop on Tuesday for new front tires. I don't know what I'd do without the great help from the staff here at Charter Oak!
