We have been going to Gail's restaurant Grasso for special occassions for years. Went once again for Valentines Day and as always the experience was great. This is one of the few classy places to eat and be entertained by live Jazz. We go back regularly.

Never again! We reserved a table near the music and were first offered one right ON TOP of the piano player--no thank you. We moved to a tiny (tiny!) table which was ok, service seemed friendly. The menu was very ordinary and so was the food--my seafood pasta was lousy. Way too pricey for 1 scallop, 2 shrimp and a lot of underdone mussels! The real downer was the music: the jazz trio played for about 45 minutes (singer was incoherent!) and then took a 45 minute break. When they returned, they played for 15 whole minutes and then broke again! What was that?? The pianist noticed me look at my watch in astonishment and then whispered to me as he walked by that they just do what they're told--the management wanted to move tables so they cut the music!! How ridiculous--there didn't even appear to be anyone waiting for a table. We got the hint, so we left and will never return---not worth the $$ for average food, average music and attitude!!

Best smoked salmon appetizer my friend ever had! I had sliced duck with a plum sauce that was out of this world! With such an awesome beginning, we thought: there's no way they can keep up this pace. But, we were wrong! Oh! We forgot to mention that Sunday Brunch started off with complimentary drinks from the bar! The jazz music was pretty darn good (we should know, we played in several bands and studied jazz with the legendary George Bouchard, who once played with Miles Davis)! Anyway, the service was beyond excellent! No one rushed us. No one grabbed our drinks before we sipped the last ounce of liquor. Once we angled our utensils on our plates (the signal for said plates to be removed), the table was cleared and we were quickly asked if we'd like anything else. We were greeted on the way in and on the way out. We felt like royalty! Yes, this place is somewhat pricey. But YES----it's worth it! If you want to live the good life, you don't mind spending a couple of bucks beyond the price of a McDonald's menu meal. You only live once! So, go for the gusto! We can't wait to go back!
