We have lived in our apartment for just under a year & except for a few items we really like our location & surroundings. The things we have a problem with seem to fall on deft ears in the office. 1) The air conditioning/duct system was operating at a very poor level. We have a one bedroom unit & our electric bill was higher than the estimate we were given by the office when we looked at the apartment & was in excess of $145.00 per month. We asked the office to have it inspected but they refused so I called a company to come in & clean the ducts & check for leaks at our expense. That fee was $125.00, now the unit works much more efficiently. We then paid a company to come in & seal all windows which the bill for that was $60.00. This resulted in a monthly deduction in our electric bill of $30.00 per month. We also buy our own filters which eliminates a huge amount of dust & pollen. 2) Refrigerator Problems: The original refrigerator in the apt when we leased it was repaired 3 times by the maintenance department, then, upon the problem still continuing they replaced the refrigerator with one they told us was new. Actually, it came out of another apartment. The same problem existed with this refrigerator where it would freeze items in the refrigerator compartment & products in the freezer would not stay frozen. As there was only a single temperature setting for the refrigerator & the freezer there was no solution. We came home from a weekend away to find our milk, buttermilk frozen solid & the cans of soda blew open & the ice went everywhere. In a 3 month period we lost over $77.00 in grocery items with no offer from the office to reimburse us for it. I then went down to the office & was told "a lot of our residents buy their own refrigerators." We went out that day & bought one. So now our lease will go up $ 51.00 & for that amount,we supply our own washer & dryer, refrigerator & handle most of our own repairs.
I have to say, the staff has been quite nice. However, the apartments themselves have a ventilation problem. If you live next to a smoker, their cigarette smoke seeps through anywhere there is a hole in the wall (outlets, switchboxes, ac ducts, plumbing- in bathrooms, laundry rooms and around hot water heater). The staff was super nice, but has yet to solve this issue. So...if you are a non-smoker and don't like having smoke in your place...this is not the place for you. Even if you move in and verify that the neighbors don't smoke, there is no guarantee that a smoker won't move in next to you.
