About This Apartment

I am a female journalist with a furnished room to rent this summer in my cute, cheerful, renovated East Village apartment on 12th Street and Avenue A. The room is available for a few weeks this summer--more specifically, July 12 through August 31, 2012. (I should note I might be open to a longer stay-- through December 2012--if we seem like a good match.)

The room is great for someone who is coming to the city for the summer to do an internship and just wants to move into a nice safe place that is fully furnished and even includes the use of sheets, towels, kitchenware, etc. Really, all you need to bring is your clothes!

In the last couple of years, I have rented the room to great people from Germany, Switzerland, Hungary and Taiwan who were in New York for school and/or internships. Actually, my last three roommates have all been studying English at Kaplan.

I am open to living with a guy or a girl, and I am seeking a non-smoker/non- druggie who doesn't bring the party home.

Also, you have to like cats because I have one--more on the cat later.

Your share of the rent and utilities (that is gas/electric and wireless Internet) will be $1,340.00 a month. I would need the first and last months' rent/utilities paid the day you move in.

The apartment is a two-bedroom with a large kitchen between the bedrooms. The kitchen serves as the common area and has a good-sized table, new stove and fridge, microwave, coffee maker, blender, rice cooker and all of the other stuff you'd expect to find in a kitchen.

Both bedrooms have doors and are private, of course.

The bathroom has a shower and a bathtub.

Your room comes furnished with a double bed, an air conditioner, a four-drawer dresser, a desk with a chair and a lamp. You also have a closet in your room.

Your room also has two windows that look out at the back of the building behind us. You don't get any street noise because you are in the back.

As I noted before, I have cookware, kitchen utensils, an iron, a hair dryer, towels, etc., that you can use, and your room comes with bedding (sheets, blankets, pillows and a comforter).

You should have your own cell phone because I use the landline for work purposes.

What else can I tell you?

The apartment is in a non-doorman walk-up building (I am on the third floor), by the way.

The L train stops right on First Avenue and 14th Street and is just a couple of minutes walk away, and you can also walk to the Union Square subway hub where the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, N, R and W trains stop in about ten minutes.

You can also easily walk to Chelsea, the West Village, Soho and the Lower East Side from here.

As you probably already know, the East Village is a great neighborhood with tons of great places to eat and shop. Also, the post office is two blocks away, and there are numerous self-service and drop-off Laundromats.

Anyway, I would like to rent the room to someone who is active, responsible, mature, independent and upbeat. I am busy and like to do my own thing when I am at home, but I don't mind sharing the apartment with someone who likes to chat at the kitchen table when we're both around.

I like to keep the common areas--the kitchen and the bathroom--clean. I am happy to do the cleaning myself. I just ask my roommate not to leave dirty dishes in the sink.

Now for the cat: In addition to living with me, you will be living with my cat. She is about five years old and very sweet and friendly. She spends most of her time with me when I am home, but I want to live with someone who loves cats so that both she and you are comfortable and happy. If you are allergic to cats or don't like cats or merely tolerate cats, this isn't the place for you.

Let me stress that again: If you are allergic to cats or don't like cats or merely tolerate cats, this isn't the place for you. While I have had great roommate experiences overall, I once lived with a girl who claimed she liked cats then confessed she was terrified of cats after she moved in. It was not a comfortable situation for her or my poor cat who just didn't understand why this girl was so afraid of her. ☺

If you are interested in renting the room, send me an email and tell me a little bit about yourself (actually, the more, the better; I don't bother to respond to people who send those cryptic one-line responses). I can also answer any questions you have.

I have put up one photo of the room with the ad, but if it sounds like you are the right person, I can, of course, send you more photos of the room and the whole apartment.

Thanks!
