House:
The townhouse is 3 floors. The main floor has a very large living space with a gas fireplace, a spacious, well equipped kitchen with ample granite countertops and gas stove, and a small half bathroom, all on hardwood floors. This bedroom suite is on the top floor, along with another full bathroom, my bedroom, and the washer & drier. The bottom floor is another small room & private bath for rent, and the garage, which is used as art/studio space as well as for storage, and for bikes. (Street parking is free and safe around here. Neighbors also routinely park in the church parking lot next door) The living room is furnished with my things at the moment, but if you have couches/shelving/etc, that you'd want to bring, we can definitely work something out... my couches are quirky(drawn on by international travelers/CouchSurfers) and well loved, but I wouldn't be opposed to getting rid of them to make room for your things. I'd rather, actually... downsizing is a good thing! :P Also, nothing's set in stone, so if you'd like a different living room configuration, we can definitely do that. :) That also goes for the artwork and ceramics I have on walls and shelves. I'm a prolific creator sometimes, so I tend to put a few things out rather than stuff them all in storage. You don't like it? No problem-o! We can put it away, or put up some of yours. There are pictures of the common space below... one in the living room facing west, one facing east(and looking onto the kitchen), and one of the kitchen. There's another of the bedroom, but it's hard to get a picture of it all. My previous roommate is taking the dining table, so we can look into getting one if we want down the road.
The room+bath:
This bedroom is on the top floor of the townhouse, receiving less street noise. It is on the opposite side of the floor from the other bedroom, and both bathrooms are in between. It has a large closet with hanging poles, a light, and built-in shelving. There is a large window opening to the rear, and two smaller, non-opening windows letting in plenty of light. The room does not have an installed light fixture, but the plugs are connected to the light switch for a lamp or two(or electronics). The bedroom has a door to the bathroom, with dual medicine cabinets, one sink, a toilet, and a shower stall. There is also access to the other, smaller bathroom open to the hallway, which has a bath. :) There is one picture below of the bedroom, obviously the roommate's things would be removed before you move in. I can supply more pictures or a floorplan if you'd like, just let me know.
Location:
The townhouse sits on 23rd Avenue, between Madison and E Olive. This is considered the edge of Capitol Hill and Central District. It's about a 15-20 minute walk to Broadway on Capitol Hill. There is a Safeway directly across the street. Within a few blocks are several bus stops... 48 just outside, the 11, 43, and 8 are within a couple blocks, and the 12 and 2 are within a couple more. One bus to UW, Greenlake, Downtown, Lower Queen Anne, South Seattle, Madison Valley, the Train, etc. This unit is on the edge of the development, so there is only 1 shared wall with another townhouse, and that's just against the staircases.
Utilities:
(gas, electricity, water, sewage, garbage, and internet) come to $100 each(for 3 of us), payable to me. I can give you reciepts if you'd like.
About me:
I work with children part-time(not in the house, of course!), and paint, draw, do ceramics, attempt new fancy desserts, and do other artsy things in the rest of my time. I enjoy listening to music, watching movies or some silly show on netflix, or having a beer or a glass of wine and conversation with a friend by the fire. When home, I'm extremely respectful to your privacy and needs. I cook and enjoy having some meals together with friends, and I would love to have roommates who enjoy group meals from time to time. Or that would eat cookies when I decide I need to bake. Not a requirement, though. :) I'm not looking for a best friend, but I would rather have roommates who enjoy each other's company at least somewhat when around, rather than silent nods. I'm down to earth, and enjoy drama-free people! Having a creative roommate would definitely be a bonus, as there is ample garage/studio space to work/paint/etc in. :) I'm pretty social, and will likely be out most nights a week, for things ranging from playing kickball, drawing sessions, a weekly happy hour i go to with friends, a weekly potluck I attend half of the time, book clubs, bike rides, meetings, art walks, gym time, etc., so the house will be relatively quite for you most of the time. On the flip side, I would LOVE to have roommates that support continuing my yearly awesome Halloween party... though, also not required, I could probably pass on it this year if that isn't your cup of tea. If you would like to have occasional parties, I can get behind that, too. I'm going to try my hand at some small space outdoor gardening, so if you have a green thumb, I'd love to share the space with you. I'm pretty open, and live well with people of all sorts. Loud, quiet, outgoing, reserved, vegans, meat-lovers, dancers, musicians, whatever. Open- hearted people work best, though. Only caveat... you have to pick up after yourself fairly regularly. I'm not a neat freak, but I do cook often, so I appreciate a mess-free kitchen. Roommates who can load the dishwasher as needed are *superb* in my book. Oh, and (I guess that makes 2) you gotta smoke your cigarettes outside!
Ideal Candidate:
*necessary: Non judgemental. I actually had someone who came to the door and scowled at my dreadlocks, commenting on them the whole time(they're clean, she was just obnoxious and judgemental). Not cool.
Someone who takes care of common spaces. I don't mind the occasional stuff left out, or a messy kitchen after a cooking spree, but if it's left out(esp the kitchen) for more than a couple days, it gets uncomfortable.
Friendliness. We don't have to be great friends, but we should get along a little. You should feel free to have your friends over. Conversely, if I or the other roommate do, by all means, feel free to join. At least say Hi!
*would be cool: Creative souls. There's plenty of space for artistic endevours.... hard to come by.
Foodies. The kitchen is large, plenty of counter space, gas appliances, and I keep staples handy(flours, sugars, grains, beans, rice, sauces, etc)
Social beings. I'm an ambassador of Couchsurfing.org, an international community of travelers, hosts, and people who love meeting other people/cultures, etc. I go to several meetups and social gatherings a week with this group, ranging from happy hours, meals, parties, bbqs, camping excursions, ect... so if you like to meet locals and travelers alike... done!
*would be stellar: Occasional parties/get togethers. I'd really like to keep the Halloween party, as stated above. I also enjoy doing occasional get togethers such as a small brunch, a wine/cheese/chocolate tasting, or BBQ at the park behind the house(the house would have to be used as bathroom facilities). You'd be welcome to do the same. This is totally not needed, though, just something that would be awesome to continue if all in the house were cool with it.
Couchsurfing hosting. I've hosted hundreds of people from around the world(and now have hundreds of places to stay around the world!). I don't *need* to host, as I'm involved with the community tons outside the home, but it would be cool to have a visitor or two every now and then. All requests would be OK'd with roommates who can review their profiles... any roommate has veto powers. Since I started with Couchsurfing, every single roommate I've ever had has loved it and started their own profile. Some becoming prolific hosts, some starting amazing projects, like an international postcard club. Again, not necessary, but would be awesome.
Here's my profile http://www.couchsurfing.org/people/klaire/ It gives you alot of information about me, also.
I've temporarily set my facebook to public, so you can find out about me if you want. I mean, if we're going to live together, you'll be aware of it anyhow. I don't friend anyone I haven't met, though, so I'll ignore adds from people I don't know. http://www.facebook.com/klaire.rueckert
I know it's alot of info... just trying to make everything clear. :)
I will remove this posting as soon as it's rented. So, if you still see this, it's still available!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I look forward to hearing from you, and possibly sharing an awesome home together.
Please tell me a little about yourself and what you're looking for in your email. Thanks!
~Klaire
