Tortuga bay is the quintessential example of laziness and con artistry. Living there was nothing short of hell on earth. From having neighbors steal money from my mailbox, and the staff seeming completely indifferent to it, to raising their prices seemingly at a whim this place screamed "I hate you" back almost as loudly as I screamed it towards them. There is constant loud maintenance which almost seems redundant as this place always looks exactly the same. The staff can't seem to help you resolve any problem but is quick to get on you for anything that bothers them. They raises the prices several times while we lived there with no reason or warning and attempted to raise it a fourth time because we had 3 cars, at this point we told then we would just be moving out. To top it all off when we left they took our entire deposit and they are trying to charge us an extra 900$, for what? I don't know. We should have read the other reviews before moving in because this seems to be the MO for the particular apartment complex. Save yourself the trouble and don't go
The Good: I lived here for two years and I loved the apartment itself, and the fact that it was so centrally located, with the Waterford Lakes Shopping Center, many restaurants, and a 10 minute drive to the Downtown Orlando night life. The maintenance staff were always top notch, and so was Mynor Mejia, who used to be the leasing agent and backbone of the front office. A new leasing agent named Diana is there now, and she's very sweet and very helpful. The Bad: The parking situation is horrendous. If you get home any time after 8 pm, you will not find parking close to your apartment, which is inconvenient for the price you're paying to lease an apartment at Tortuga Bay. In the past year and a half, they started allowing people to co-sign for the person getting the lease, which has resulted in the complex being completely bombarded with UCF students. This has changed the overall feel of the residents from young, working professionals to sloppy, inconsiderate students with zero regard to their neighbors. And for what you will pay to live here, it is no longer worth it. The Absolute Worst: The property manager, if you can even call her a manager. She is rude, condescending, and has absolutely zero consideration of her residents' time and money. She never acknowledges people when they are in the office, even if she's the only one there. She is always on the phone on personal calls, and has even refused to allow residents use the computer room to print, scan or fax something by lying to your face and telling you that you that the property doesn't have a scanner or fax. Tortuga Bay will stiff you with a cleaning bill, no matter how clean you leave the unit. Mynor Mejia no longer works there, so you have to depend on the Property Manager, who is absolutely worthless. Unfortunately for me, the bad taste left in my mouth after dealing Kele completely tarnished my experience at Tortuga Bay. And I'm still waiting for a response from Equity Residential. I suggested they send people in to randomly shop Kele, as well as polling the residents in regards to how satisfied they are for the way they are being treated. I think if they're willing to charge $1100-1250 for a one bedroom apartment, they need to act like they appreciate the fact you're willing to pay top dollar to live there.
The apartment themselves aren't bad, but just know that the front office is totally useless once you have moved in. They never pick up the phone and on multiple occasions they failed to call me back after I'd left more than one message. I literally had to drive from the other side of town to actually get an answer. And as others have said the parking situation at night is horrendous. One final note : there is no possible way to get your security deposit back when it comes to cleaning the apartment when you move out. I spent a entire day cleaning the place and they still charged me the FULL amount. They flip the cleaning bill to the renter. Beware.
I lived here, I would not suggest living here to anyone. The fees when you move out are unfair and flat out BS. They wont fix the AC units because they are on a warranty that is not up yet. So to save a few of there dollars I had a $300.00 power bill almost every single month for 6 months. Most of the staff is a few IQ points above retarded at best. They approach every situation with the same my hands are tied I just work here I cant actually do any thing to help you attitude. I read some of the other reviews maybe this place was allot better in 2005 but now it's just crap. I would not move back if they were paying me to live there, it is really that bad.
Once you're in a lease, the management couldn't care less about you. They are rude, inconsiderate and practically threatened us with a passive aggressive letter when it was time to review their service to equity residential. Save yourself a lot of hassle and disrespect - find somewhere else to live.
