office is awful. never have the correct info, do not respond to you. prices are always changing.
At first glance these buildings look to be like diamonds in the rough! What a sham! The ceilings leak--down the stairwell. There is mold growing in the ceiling near AC apt 522 and it has been for months. We first moved in and were told no pets as we are allergic. That was a lie! There were cats (you could smell the litter box) and dogs! When we confronted management they explained that cats were always allowed (which is not what our lease says). They never addressed the dog issue. Just saying that we must be mistaken. I would rather live in a cardboard box then ever stay another night in the River Lofts!
The leasing office and management staff is generally unfriendly and rude. Their lack of committment to customer service is evident in the staffs' interactions with their residents. When I approached the leasing office about terminating my lease, I was told that I needed to visit the management office. Are you kidding me?!! I can't manage my lease in the leasing office?! Oh, I get it. The leasing office is there to "handle new leases." In other words, they are not interested in their current residents. They are only interested in sucking in the next poor victim. On top of all this, the apartments are overpriced. If you are looking to rent an apartment in Richmnond, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.
I had the most horrendous time during my stay at the River Lofts at Tobacco Row. The walls separating your bedroom from the bedroom of the next apartment over are paper thin! You will hear every single conversation, cell phones ring, people having sex into the late hours of the night, as well as TV s and music.
And it s not just the bedroom walls. You ll hear your neighbors slamming kitchen drawers, slamming fridge and microwave doors, and a whole lot of other stuff.
-- and this is apparently a pretty common thing in this whole community, even their most expensive luxury building has this same problem.
It s funny; it s almost like when they built these places, when they put up the walls between the apartments, they were just a thin layer of sheetrock on your side, one on their side, and some plywood frame to hold it up. I couldn t believe it! I was lying in bed hearing a girl laughing and talking on the phone to her mom like she was standing right there in my room!
The dipshits who were my neighbors got home at 2:00am one night, drunk obviously, after the bars let out, and were pretty-much yelling to each other (talking at volume levels like they were still in a loud bar). Their talking was cutting right through my bedroom wall, like it wasn t even there. The girl let out this huge, hysterical laugh, and that was it for me.
I called security, got a noise complaint filed; he went by to quiet them down, then as soon as he was gone (now it was about 3:00am), the neighbors came over and knocked on my door. No way am I answering my door at 3:00am!!! That s also considered threatening behavior , listed in the lease as not-remediable and is cause for immediate eviction.
And in that community, it s all girls who have the places, and the boyfriends go over to stay, like every night, that I could never understand. I' d avoid this place like the plague! You ll never get any sleep, parking sucks. Pretty buildings on the outside, okay-looking lobbies. Paper-thin walls and noisy neighbors. Don t live here!!!!
The River Lofts comes with its share of issues and frustrations, but it's not awful -- otherwise I would not have lived there for the past four years. At one point I did have to worry about a leak every time it rained heavily but after several months of complaining they did finally fix the roof. Maintenance is generally reliable for small stuff but bigger issues (such as fixing equipment in the gym or getting the freight elevator working again) do seem to take longer to resolve than they should. The walls are thin and if you have drunk/loud neighbors they are likely to be an annoyance; however, security is usually pretty good about dealing with noise complaints promptly. The amenities (two gyms, two pools, a theater) are quite nice and if you pay for a parking space you can always find one. Within walking distance of grocery, pharmacy, and several clubs and restaurants.
