Ok but not a boutique hotel... It is huge and always full of people on the lobby. The bed was good, my room was big and clean. The staff and concierge was very good. The spa was awful. Very very bad... The bar closes early and the bartenders are the worst drink makers ever - I usually love hotel's bar and this one wins the worst experience ever.

While in general my stay at the James was nice, the James is completely unaccommodating when it came to fraudulent minibar charges. During our stay, we consumed one thing from the minibar: a bottle of water. After we checked out, my credit card was subsequently charged for over $50 worth of minibar consumption: gummy bears, cashews, a "jimmybar" (I don't even know what that is), and other random beverages. When I called to dispute the charge, not only was the accounting manager, Julia Ruiz, unhelpful and unsympathetic, she was downright rude. Fraudulent charges are certainly not what I would expect from a four-star hotel, but the failure to deal with the issue courteously is downright shameful. I will not be staying at the James Chicago or any of their other hotels in the future.

We visited Chicago and stayed at the James for a night. The front door staff and the front desk staff were very professional and very nice. They upgraded us to a loft suite which was a great room. The bedding and bath products were high quality, too. We'll be back on our next visit.
