Quite honestly, a lot of the "complaints" that are listed here simply are not true. I'm not sure what what happened in those specific situations but nobody I've talked to has ever had these concerns. We have been here for about a year and a half now and while it's not perfect, it's darn close to it. PROS: 1) You simply cannot live any close to the BART station than this; getting into the city is a breeze. 2) All of the neighbors are nice, friendly and kind. 3) At night, it's quiet and safe 4) The custodial and maintenance staff is always friendly and willing to help 5) The folks at the front office are very kind and helpful. 6) We have never had an issue parking either of our cars. 7) When we renewed, our rent did NOT go up by a fortune (as some have claimed) CONS: We've had a few minor complaints about the age of the apartment, the size and the layout we're currently in but given that these are relatively minor and we don't own the property, they're hardly worth listing. If you're moving from out of the area and need a place that is extremely accessible to BART and downtown Walnut Creek, this is definitely a good place.

I cannot believe how disrespectful the lady, Mary, was at the office. She acted like my interests didn't matter and told us to focus on the amenities they DO have, which meant nothing to us. I was interested in the Walnut Creek Station property so she insisted I take a look at this property first. After wasting my time she dropped us, she sent us over to the Walnut Creek Station office, best thing that could have happened to us. The lady, Clarice, was SO nice and cheerful, she showed us exactly what we wanted to see, and answered ALL our questions. Mary needs to take some lessons from Clarice on how people should be treated. I have not decided if I will lease yet but if I do I am going back to see Clarice.

DO NOT RENT FROM HERE! This is a miserable place to live. Customer service is terrible in the front office. Service requests are ignored. Don't plan on ever having company over or having more than one vehicle because there is absolutely no parking. The $99 deposit is a trick because they charge you completely unreasonable cleaning fees on your way out. Expect your rent to go up 300+ after just one year. There are mosquitos eveyrwhere because of the trees and ZERO CELL RECEPTION. We were NEVER able to make even the simplest phone call. After two painful years (had to stay an extra year because we were in the middle of planning/financing a wedding), we have finally left and a MONTH later I still have not received my deposit check back. Don't bother with this place. Extra star only for being close to BART and accepting dogs.

WARNING!!! When you make a deposit, don't expect to get most of your money back. WARNING!!! The deposits you make are part of the hidden costs. WARNING!!! They will charge you $183.75 for paint at the end of your stay (coming out of the deposit). When they did a preliminary walk-through, they said that charge is automatic. They pointed to the 6 pictures I had hanging on the wall. I asked for the paint colors (so I could go buy the paint) and said I would spackle the small nail holes and do the paint myself (a 5 minute operation). The maintenance manager wouldn't give me the paint colors and said he would waive the paint fees. When I got my move-out check, they charged me the full $183.75. WARNING!!! They will not return phone calls when you call to question your move-out refund. I've called several times and left messages. NO RETURNED CALLS!!! WARNING!!! When I moved in, the carpets were filthy. Not by appearance, but by the dirt on my socks after walking around my unit. Translation....they will charge you for carpet cleaning when yoy leave ($50.00) but they do not always clean the carpet for the next tenant. WARNING!!! If you are even a rather heavy sleeper (which I am), if your unit is near the BART tracks, the roar of the trains in the dead of night was unbearable. They run from about 4:15 am to 1:00 am. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS APARTMENT COMPLEX!!!!

WARNING!!! BAD NEWS! You WILL NOT receive your deposit back. Overall living there is not bad, but the deposit system is EXTREMELY shady at best. My wife & I lived there for only 2.5 months and left it immaculately clean (better than when we moved in actually). She spend 8 hours cleaning EVERY detail our 600sf apartment to ensure we would get our cleaning deposit back. Later we talked to one of the receptionists who said we shouldn't have bothered because they always charge $100 for a professional cleaning service, NO MATTER how well you cleaned. Sure enough we were charged the $100. Also, we asked different office personnel three times what paint we could use to dab over the 10-15 small spackle holes where we hung pictures. They refused to give us a paint color and said it would have to be professionally painted...despite the fact that on the check-out sheet it says to paint any spots needing it. We received our bill today and they charged us $250 for a FULL repainting of the one bedroom apartment (of which I can guarantee you didn't happen...the place was immaculate). While life in Archstone apartments wasn't bad, I would much rather live in a place with HONEST staff and ownership. This is not how business should be handled. Read the NUMEROUS bad reviews posted on the internet. There's a REASON Archstone is cheaper than many other places...because they just charge you in the end. Save your money and headache by living somewhere else.
