I stayed at Brookstone Apartments for 3 years from 2011 to 2014. The apartment was 1008 ft with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms 3rd floor. I had a great view of the mountains when the tree was trimmed. The complex is usually quiet during the week and on weekends there was a little noise. I felt safe going to and from my apartment its gated and you need key or code to enter the building. The apartment amenities were an added bonus with a gym, pool and several laundry rooms.(not coin operated) Never an issue with roaches or vermin. If you needed anything repaired the apartment management had someone out to fix the issue in a timely manner. The apartment management was always friendly and tried to handle any issues i had with a positive resolution. Here are a few issues i had, shower only produced lukewarm water, issues with the fan in the bathroom as well. these two issues were looked at and band aided when they should have been replaced. The glaze over the counters and tubs are hard to clean properly with out damaging the glaze be careful you will be charged to have it reglazed. Carpets have a 7 year life span so treat it well and use their free yearly carpet cleaning service. If you have pets they will make you pay to replace the carpeting if they find stains.Never got to use the pool since it was filled with kids all summer long the children are not always supervised. FPI The company that owns Brookstone is very slow at negotiating the yearly rent increase. There is only street parking for guests and residents who have more than 1 car per household. No overnight parking on the street unless you have a permit via the Covina police department. Mail box was broken into once that i know of so after that i started dropping off all my out going mail to the local post office.

Oct 2011. We just moved in (Been here for 3 days) and, though I may change my mind yet, I am liking this place. My husband and I checked out a total of 4 apartment complexes all within 2 miles of this area and all the others were a dump (especially compared to this place). Our 'Rent Budget' set our search parameters and this place topped out as the best. We pay $1015/mo for a 1 bed/1bath. It's 741 sq.ft. and actually quite spacious. We were pleasantly surprised. The application process was a BEAR! 45 page lease contract and a week to process our application - but this is all due to them being so strict with new tenants. And I can see them cleaning up the riff-raff of past tenants already. They do a full background check (for crime and sex-offenders), full credit check, and past history check (They will call EVERYONE one your list - FYI. Employers, past landlords, etc). Thought it took forever to process us, we are grateful they do this, because it means not JUST ANYONE can get a place here. We barely scraped in with our poor credit rating (we've gone to ALL CASH now - no credit anymore - so it looks bad on our score, but they took that into consideration when I spoke with them and allowed us in with a larger deposit). EVERYTHING was super clean and freshly painted or replaced when we got in. Our toilet ran with the first flush, so they sent a repairman up IMMEDIATELY (before our boxes were even all the way up here), and he put all new guts in the toilet and it works like a champ. They use roll-on counters, waterproof paint/coating in the bathrooms, and high-gloss paints on the walls, so everything is refreshed and as new as possible. (new faucets and a shower head that massages :) ) Yes, the building is from the 70's, but they are keeping up on it good enough. All our neighbors so far seem very friendly and quiet. Got a little loud on the weekend nights, but they piped down by 10pm (curfew). The management is very friendly and helpful and are more than willing to accommodate our needs, as long as it's in writing (I think that's probably while some people are unhappy here, because they wont comply with the rules). Parking isn't bad - thank goodness it's a nice long street to park outside (we have only one space inside). I will be writing to the City of Covina to take down the NO-Parking signs next to the shut-down school behind us, to open up more parking. YES - THERE ARE ROACHES. They are German Cockroaches (small - 1/4 to 1/2"). They like open food containers (especially dog-food) and moist areas (sink). We've only seen 4 of them, and I mashed them to bits. We placed boric acid (Roach-Away Powder) in the back of the cupboards, behind the fridge and under the drawers, about 24 hours ago - and haven't seen one since. (Not sure if the powder is to praise for that, or my bug-hunting-cats). We've read good things about the gel stuff- but it was far more expensive than the powder - so we started cheap and will move onto the gel if the powder doesn't work. IN the meantime - I've asked (in writing) for the pest-control to come to my apartment (They come every Tues to the facility). Two nice washers and dryers are on my floor, they take pre-filled cash cards which can be filled in the lobby on a machine. The elevator runs smooth and am I so grateful for it, with a bum-leg. They are pet friendly and have doggy poo bags out in the lawns for keeping the place picked up. I will update my rating and review if I change my mind later on - but all-in-all, we are glad we didn't read the poor reviews before we applied and moved in, we are happy with the place, especially for the price and area (We don't think we could get any better without paying for more). I recommend you bring sealed food containers and roach treatment for your move-in.

Would be better if I didn't feel like I was living in a barracs room.

Oh, God, where do I start with this place? It looked nice when we moved in, but within three months, we had roaches all over our apartment. The neighbor below us was a drunk who let garbage pile up, and by the time they kicked her out, the whole building was infested. They refused to fumigate the place, instead relying on spraying that NEVER WORKED. Every month we had to clear out our cabinets and closets so they could ineffectually spray. We went through hell. The last straw for me was the night one of these roaches dropped on my head. The company that owns this complex is worth $2 billion dollars, from the research I did, and I hope somebody sues them one day. The only things worthwhile about the complex was the location is convenient to everything, so I could walk to whatever I wanted/needed, and the laundry rooms were nice. That's it.

You can hear pretty much everything from your neighbors... Also I believe the owners don't want to invest enough on getting this thing done.. THAT IS THE PROBLEM. OWNER/OWNERS KEEP CHANGING MANAGEMENT COMPANIES AND THIS MANAGEMENT COMPANIES DO NOT HAVE THE RESOURCES TO COMPLETE THE JOB. WHO ARE THE LOSERS? THE TENANTS...
