Stacy SC: Love the festive sea turtle statue for the holidays! The IOP beach is the nesting site for many endangered sea turtles. The local Sea Turtle Hospital also releases rehabilitated turtles several times a year at this beach.

Stacy SC: Sewee Indian Shell Ring dates back over 4,000 years. Also known as middens, this ring of oyster shells is one of the last in a long chain of rings up from Florida. Rising tide, Hurricane Hugo, and vandalism is/has impacted the extent of the shell ring and only a fraction remains visible.

Stacy SC: SC Oyster Restoration and Enhancement Program (SCORE) project along the Daniel Island waterfront park and trails. SCORE installed mats of recycled oyster shells to provide a natural surface for new oysters to grow. The mats also help stabilize the shoreline which is eroding due to water & wave action. We were there planting Spartina (native marsh plant) for additional shore stabilization.

Stacy SC: Sun, salt, erosion and salt-intolerant forest created these tree skeletons (which make great picture backdrops). This state wildlife preserve is well worth the boat trip for wildlife enthusiasts!
