The promenade is a cultural icon of Santa Monica. Shopping is a mixed bag with expensive and more affordable stores. Sit down restaurants are not very good. Stick to fast food or walk a block or two to other restaurants in the area. The promenade has awesome street performers. Definitely stop and enjoy the people watching.
99% of the locally owned business are gone. The last time I went here was around 1997 and even then there were cool mom and pop shops. Two weeks ago I went back to Third Street Promenade hoping to see some semblance of the place I loved visiting only 17 years prior. Remember where Pee Wee got his bike stolen in "Pee Wee's Big Adventure?" Or the cool record shop where Molly Ringwald worked at in "Pretty in Pink?" Well this outdoor mall is nothing like that anymore. It's all big chains now; Gap, American Eagle, Starbucks, Zara, etc. As a result, this is a nice place to visit only if you are including it as part of a general exploration of Santa Monica, or if you are in need of a mall-schmall moment. The Third Street Promenade is no longer a destination for tourists looking for a unique LA cultural experience.
👓Lots of cool stores. 👕Been coming here for years. 👟You never know who you will see here on a Sunday.👒 Best place to park is by the mall on the South or a little parking structure at the very North
I really like coming here to see all the acts that perform here. The promenade is cool specially at night time. Its a lively environment. Clean walkway. great shopping stores and restaurants. I have seen some really entertaining acts at 3rd street. I remember last time I was there, I saw this Spaniard gypsy style brothers that performed. They had beautiful melodies with guitars. I bought their CD and have it playing in my car often. Recommended specially if you've never been.
It's better than before and alot more cleaner.
