Horribly unprofessional and will do anything to get more money out of you. First, when I moved in the apartment was not well cleaned, nails from previous renters had simply been painted over, not removed or filled in. My internet and cable were not working and it took 7 phone calls and 4 emails for them to finally have someone come look at it. After living there only a month the maintenance guy came to my door after hours to ask me on a date, making me extremely uncomfortable. Since then he had made passing comments about how he could deliver a package to my apartment while I was at work because he had a key and therefore I never felt like I could ask for anything to be fixed. My payment plan was having my bank automatically send a check on the 27th of every month, meaning it would easily get there before the deadline of the 5th. When I was 3 months out from the end of my lease, I was out for a work convention and my friend watching my dog told me I had received a note on my door saying that my rent was late, they needed it in a money order or cashier's check, no personal checks, in 2 days or else I would be evicted. 2 DAYS and they were going to evict me. I was out of town and the notice on the door was the only warning I received, I'm lucky my friend was there or else I would have been in court. But, looking back, I probably should have let them evict me because I already had my next living arrangements lined up and it probably would have saved me money. After having to pay a 15% late fee, I informed them over the phone that I would not be renewing my lease. They have a 60 policy about that and I assumed verbal would be ok. The day after my lease ended I finally got a phone call saying that I owed MORE THAN MY MONTHLY RENT for those 60 days because it was not in a hand written note. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY REMINDER FROM ANYONE ON THE STAFF that it needed to be hand written. I was told they had sent out an email 3 weeks prior, but I never got that. Even over the phone when I gave my verbal notice they never told me it had to be written. Now i'm going to end up loosing almost $2000 that I don't have, even when I tried negotiating with them to bring it down. They will not help you, they are money hungry, unprofessional, mean managers. At this point I should have let them evict me, or cancelled my lease to pay the $2000 cancellation fee anyways, but at least this whole thing would have been over long ago. DO NOT LIVE HERE, IT ISN'T WORTH IT!
I would give negative stars if I was able. This is the worst complex I have ever lived in. Fist off, they made us wait 10 days in between apartments before we could move in so they could replace the carpet and paint. I was frustrated with this but I was pleased we would have new carpet. Then, as soon as we move in our washing machine flooded 3 rooms because someone forgot to insert the drainage tube into the proper place. I had to fight with them to have someone come properly dry the carpet and replace the padding. Fast forward 2 months and we get a notice that they were going to be doing a REHAB project and remodel the entire complex. Including flooring and counter tops. So they came in as soon as we were settled into our home and ripped up all of the NEW carpet in the living space and replaced it with vinyl "wood" planks. We had to move all of our furniture and belongings into the bedrooms so they could do this remodel, I also had to leave the premises so that our children were not in the way. My husband is a full time student at MSU and works a part time job on the side so he stayed behind. When he returned home at 2 am he found both toilets still in the bathtub as well as an open bag concrete on top of the toilet in the children's bathroom. DANGEROUS AND DISGUSTING. My husband was literally left without a pot to piss in. We received nothing more than an apology for this incident. Then just last month I gave them permission to come into my home to do the granite counter top remodel. I gave them 4 days to do this as we were leaving town. They did not do it and I did not even receive a notice to reschedule until they were beating on my door at 8 am insisting to come in. I called the office and told them NO.I could not be out of my kitchen for 4 days. They would have to do this on a weekend. So they let me be... for 3 days. Then they were back at 7:30 DEMANDING I MUST LET THEM IN. I had to raise hell. I am in the middle of packing my apartment and it was the worst day to possibly be displaced. I finally let them come in the following week on a Friday. They came in.. installed the counter tops, left a huge mess, and did not even seal the granite so that it is already staining. This has seriously been the worst place I have lived in. I signed a contract with Avalon expecting to have a happy, comfortable, safe place to live. And with this remodel going on and the lack of care by the management.... It has been anything but that. We are now trying to leave and move to Memphis to start a new job and because the last manager has quit or been fired our agreement that we had as far as the "lease buy out" goes has been completely dismissed and we are being held accountable for a much larger amount of money up front. I have no trouble with honoring my contract, but because our previous agreement is not being honored we will have to pay for this home, that we are so very displeased with, as well as our new home for the remainder of the summer. Please do yourself a favor and do NOT live here.
They did not adequately prepare my apartment before moving me in. The walls looked like they had been primed and not painted. The primer/paint formed very noticeable wrinkles and bumps on the walls, especially the corners. It did not smell like it had been cleaned, including the carpet. There were a lot of pest problems throughout the whole complex. The worst part was the sewage smell coming out of the tub in the bathroom of the master bedroom. It began my second year there and went on for several months and was part of the reason I moved out. They came out a few times but eventually gave up on a solution. It was absolutely terrible and caused the whole master bedroom to smell like sewage. They never offered me any kind of reimbursement for having to deal with this. Then, after I moved out, they sent me a bill for broken blinds. The blinds had been broken since before I moved in, but I did not know it until a few days after signing all my forms. It seems petty and greedy to me that they would send a bill for this to someone who consistently paid rent for two years while living in what often smelled like a sewage dump. While there were some amiable staff members, I felt like I had been cheated.
