Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, orginally known as Army Hospital 21, was built in 1918. My grandfather was born at Fitzsimons. This building, 'Building 500,' was added in 1941 to serve as the main building of the hospital. At the time it was the largest structure in Colorado! Building 500 closed completely in 1999 and it now sits in the center of the Anschutz Medical Campus, a $5 billion redevelopment of the facility. This includes the University of Colorado Hospital's Anschutz Inpatient Pavilon, Children's Hospital, University of Colorado Denver medical education and research facilities, Bioscience Park Center & Bioscience East, Colorado Science & Technology Park at Fitzsimons, 21 Fitzsimons (a residential/retail town center,) and the Veteran Affairs Medical Center (currently being built) This area is definitely quite a sight! #Fitzsimons
