The worst place to be in terms of the management. the building manager - Joanna is very rude, extremely bureaucratic and does not do her job of serving the community members properly. I have several occasions where I had terrible time to get simple solutions such as lockout help. DO not consider this place, because you will have to deal with the management at some point during your stay and that is going to be really bad.
I moved in 2009 and read the horror stories on here. Apparently, a new management company took over and the building has improved 110%, so be wary of reviews that are really old. The property manager and leasing agent were sometimes not very prompt in responding, but very friendly and get the job done. Apartments are renovated as tenants move out (although illegally from what I can tell). Everything is new in my studio and the rent pretty reasonable (and the building is rent controlled). The location is perfect, they tuckpointed the bricks in 2009, the interior has been renovated within the past 5 yrs, there's a business center and a fitness center (although it's very modest). Borger took over the property management from Cafritz in 2010, and they are definitely not as good as Cafritz, so beware of the property management here - it's not going to be like a "luxury" building. My friends say I found a great spot and I know that similar places are going for $1,700/month in this neighborhood, so take it for what it's worth. My only wish is that they improve the roof deck for the next warm season.
OK, I won't say which of the terrible reviews below was written by me, but I will say they are all very credible writeups, but I just can't believe how the building has made a 180 degree turnaround in the past year. The management is all new; new plastering, painting, remodelling, and new woodwork &carpets have all been added throughout every floor of the building. Two new elevator cabs, new landscaping and a new retaining wall, a 24 hour business center and fitness area were installed too, though thee laundry room is still run by some cheesey contract outfit that has lame lukewarm dryers (if they work at all). The lobby was restored and remodelled, and they hired some genuinely thoughtful and actively helpful staff in the office. The recycling room is even open 24 hrs now! The roof deck hasn't opened yet for the summer, so I'll wait to comment on whether that has gotten better. It kind of resembles the roof of the prison in the movie "Shawshank Redemption", but with a little care, it might be made more appealing. All in all, I can hardly believe it. My pals are asking me if my building went condo! There has not been a critter (roaches, ants or mice) in about a year, and they they have just impressed the heck out of me with this change. My rent went up 5% last year, and I haven't got any gripe about it whatsoever, since they truly improved this in a way that makes me want to reccomend it to others. Shucks, I am truly delighted to be living here. What happenned? Signed, Happy Miramar Guy
