I just moved my daughter in this past weekend, so I don't have anything to say yet as to how it goes living there. But I was delighted at the apartment itself. It was much bigger than we'd expected. The living area had huge windows all along one wall and extremely high ceilings - it is reminiscent of an artist's studio in a warehouse space. The kitchen was very clean and seemed newly renovated.
First off, I could never have imagined a better living experience for the money, convenience, and overall location/placement that I have had the opportunity to have. The General Manager, Rich, has been more than willing to help me out in any situation that may impede me financially, being a student and all, as well as any other problems that have arisen, which have been very slim. He has been a huge part of why I love living here. Alisha, the Assistant Manager, is also extremely welcoming and helpful in all situations, as are the rest of the CAs. The fact that everything is included in rent is extremely awesome. Also, the fact that there are a lot of community gatherings with free pizza and prizes and whatnot all year long is extremely welcoming. They really try to cater to us college kids, and they do a great job with it. The grounds keeping is also spot-on, as they are always, always, always prompt to answering work orders as well as maintain the grounds in general. Kudos to them and the staff. For my years at VCU, I could have never asked for a better living situation all around. I cannot say enough to express how grateful I am for living here and for the people that operate the place. They deserve a lot of recognition for keeping it a great community to live in. Another Note: To my understanding, there seems to be a couple of reviews with bad rep. There has been a whole new, re-vamped change in management and how things are done. Everything is clean. The cleaning crews are there almost daily. There are brand new hallways and everything has been renovated to be more modern and attractive. Rich has worked extremely hard to make this happen.
When looking for apartment in Richmond that is clean, affordable, has friendly staff and an overall positive safe environment the Lofts at Capital Garage is the place to go. In addition to the above, VCU is a 10 minute walk to campus making it very convenient as a student to get to classes and fully enjoy the VCU atmosphere.
Never lived there, so I can't speak about the building itself, but they are so disruptive to the surrounding neighborhood. I live directly behind the building and almost every night/morning, around 1am-3am, they run some sort of loud vent or machinery. It is so loud that it wakes me up and keeps me awake, usually around the time that the garbage trucks start coming through, so I'm usually unable to fall back asleep after that disruption. It's happened enough times for me to need to write a review about it. Next time, I'm going to call the police for disturbance of the peace. Because it's literally a ridiculously loud problem.
Nice and simple. Bed Bugs
