ZERO STARS needs to be an option!!! The 4 star Jessica T. review posted on YELP is a FAKE. (bought out of our lease after 3 months, that's how horrible this place is, a month after our lease was up they charged us $600 for a new carpet that we were not responsible for staining) STAFF WILL BECOME UNAVAILABLE TO ADDRESS ANY OF YOUR ISSUES AS SOON AS YOU SIGN LEASE, STAFF WILL FLAT OUT AVOID YOU, FAKEST PEOPLE I HAVE EVER MET!! Below is a list of examples of how INCOMPETENT the LYING and SCAMMING Runaway Bay staff is. DO NOT MOVE THERE. The quarry isn't worth it. You will regret it. -CHARGED $600......I'll repeat that $600!!!!! for new carpet a month after moving out for a pet urine stain that was already on the dirty carpet when we moved in -HOT WATER STOPPED WORKING 2 months in, maintenance claimed to have fixed it but the water continued to be cold/luke warm at best sometimes -BROKEN SCREEN on window, called the office 3 times asking them to fix it and they always said they were "waiting on a new screen to arrive" -MAILBOX LOCK WAS BROKEN so our mailbox was always wide open for the world to see and people to steal mail, asked to have it fixed multiple times and nothing ever happened -TOILET WAS BROKEN the 1st day we moved in, same TOILET BROKE AGAIN when we were moving out -leasing agent guaranteed free WI-FI was included in rent when showing us the apt model, FLAT OUT LIE and when we confronted management they said "Oh that leasing agent doesn't work here anymore so we can't speak for her" -staff left paper sign on our door around 9-10am that we had until 5pm to pay an outstanding charge or we would be charged a $100 late fee, not only is this a 7-8 HOUR NOTICE but my roommate and I both work 8am-5pm, luckily I came home for lunch that day, turned out that we didn't even owe any outstanding charge, the staff CALCULATED OUR PRO-RATED RENT WRONG from when we moved in -STAFF GUARANTEED us parking spots in front of our apt building, NEVER HAPPENED, most nights if you get home after 6pm all spots even remotely close to our building were taken In addition to all of the ridiculous issues we encountered at Runaway Bay listed above, the staff is extremely UNPROFESSIONAL and never available. They do not reply to emails or voicemails. If you come into the office they will make you wait FOREVER because they want you to give up and leave. The actual apartments look nothing like the model. They are OLD and DIRTY and in very poor condition. The walls are so thin you can hear it clearly every time someone FLUSHES THE TOILET or uses a microwave in neighboring apartments. We paid $1000 a month for a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom. You can find a way nicer place with much more competent staff for probably even cheaper. RUN AWAY FROM RUNAWAY BAY!!
I lived in these apartments for a year and just moved out. The only reason I lived here was for cheap rent which they have since increased 200+ dollars. From the start it was a disaster. The lady I signed a lease with never told me the door code needed to access my apartment. I moved in on a Sunday and couldn't get into my apartment. I had to call emergency maintenance and leave a message. About an hour later they called and gave me the door code so I could move in. That same door was eventually damaged and unable to close which was never repaired. A thief's paradise at Runaway Bay. About a month after I moved in my dish washer broke. I reported that but was never fixed during the 12 months I lived there. Some of the people in the complex are nice but unfortunately I was next to a couple that had domestic violence incidents about once a month. When I ended up moving out they attempted to charge me for damages that I had included on the move in sheet. A couple weeks after I paid any owed balance I received a call from collections indicating I never paid and then demanded I send them proof that I had paid because they aren't able to verify directly with Runaway Bay. This occurrence seems to be common as a number of past reviews also mention it. Overall a nightmare. Lived in Columbus for 10 years and I would prefer taking cheaper rent on campus over this dump. I highly suggest looking else where.
I was a model tenant and for the most part, I really enjoyed living here. I had a nightmare of a downstairs neighbor, but the staff did give him warnings on my behalf. Maintenance was handled in a timely fashion. Once I did get a mysterious bill for almost 300 dollars on my door, but I fought until the charge was removed. No one could ever give me a satisfactory reason why I owed it, since I owed nothing like that the month prior. Unfortunately, they allow the entire city of Columbus park in the lot to use the lake and towing is not enforced. Yes, there is someone who tows at NIGHT, but I never once saw anyone towing on the weekend during the day, which is when all the parking spaces were taken up by non-tenants using our amenities. When I moved out, I left my forwarding address on the envelope when I dropped off my keys and garage door opener in the drop box, but I can only guess what happened to my deposit because I never received a written explanation, statement, nor bill. I have been gone 3 months and never received any explanation of where my deposit went (which is illegal in Ohio, by the way, they owe it in 30 days). I didn't damage the apartment and I painted it back, so who knows? I WAS, however, sent to collections for my last utility bill and a "late fee". How could anything have been late when my lease ended on a Sunday? What was late? I don't know. I called and asked for an explanation, but no one ever called me back. Let me make that clear: You will not know where your deposit went, or why you owe what they say you do, but you will be harassed by a collections company until you pay. I never had an issue living there, but apparently they want to "burn their bridges" after you leave. If you don't care about that and you like a place that is not too expensive and has a nice lake and pool, it might be for you
I've been living here for 10 years, and there is no better place to live in Columbus. A resort style community 5 minutes drive from downtown. Swimming, boating, and fishing on the lake when the weather is warm, its like being on vacation at home. They also just completely tore down and built a brand new clubhouse with an incredible state of the art gym I use daily, and also a brand new pool with cabana, which trust me, is the place to be on any warm summer day. I'm shocked when I read maitenance issues people have posted about, I've never had any issues here, nothing has ever really broken in my apartment, except my refrigerator died on me like 5 years ago, then my garbage disposal broke a few years back. The fridge died, I went to the office and told them, like 3 hours later guys rolled a new fridge in my place, I didn't even lose any perishable food. My garbage disposal took 2 trips, but only because they came out same day and tried to fix it and told it me was dead, next morning they came back and put in a new one. Bottom line people, don't let bad reviews scare you off. I travel all over the country, and its the same way with hotel reviews, I never judge a place on other people's remarks until I see it for myself. Take a visit to Runaway Bay and check out the property for yourself. I find it hard to believe anyone who sees the lake views here won't be impressed with the property.
I actually really love living here!! At first I thought the distance from downtown would be a problem but it isn't at all. An uber is under $10 and that works perfectly for me. I absolutely LOVE the lake that is attached to the property. Dogs love swimming in it and so do me and my boyfriend. In the summers there are fun parties down there and access to flotation devices and kayaks. The pool is equally as fantastic. Plenty of room for everyone and just had a makeover. Great canopy with couches and the lounge chairs around the pool are great. In the summers every once in a while a DJ comes and plays and turns it into a pool party! The gym is never too crowded and there is free tanning! The people who work at the office are great people if you get to know them. They are very chill and live on the property incase there is an emergency. Maintenance can be slow at times.. but if you physically go to the office with your problem they will usually fix it same day. The negatives people right I'm sure are warranted.. but the leasing office people are different and so is management. Much better now.
