The Lake House at Martin's Landing is awesome!! I just moved in and am enjoying walking distance to the lake, a quick drive to anything you could want, a spacious apartment, and trees everywhere that I can enjoy from my deck. The girls in the office are friendly and helpful. The few issues I have had have been resolved quickly and easily. Looking forward to burning a fire in my wood burning fireplace on a cold winter's night!!
Initially it was a very nice place to live. However, very recently it became owned by a different management. With that came a new staff. They fired all of the non-white staff and brought in an ALL white staff. The staff is EXTREMELY rude and they don't seem to have an answer for anythng when you call for assistance. You will always have to speak to someone in corporate because the leasing agents are THAT incompetent. The grounds are not kept up as they were when they were owned by the previous management. The grass is overgrown and when the landscaping crew comes out to cut the grass, they don't use the edger to cut the grass in the area where the sidewalk meet the grass. Next, the rent increase has been ridiculous. These apartments are nearly 40 years old. I lived in these exact same apartments 33 years ago. Prior to t he new management, the increase at renewal was $40. We were also given the choice of renewing at a 6 months, 12 months or 15 month term. Since the new company took over, we have received a rent increase of $100 and only permitted to renew for 12 months. When asked if I could renew for 15 months, I was advised that I could not and when asked about the $100 rent increase, I was advised that it was to bring the apartments to "market rate". You are also responsible for paying for water and trash so basically this is an additional $140 per month for a 40 year old apartment with bad landscaping and a rude and incompetent and seemingly RACIST staff. In addition, under the previous management, there were no breed restrictions on dogs. With the new management, they sent letters out to people who had pit bulls advising people that either they had to get rid of their dog, or they had to move. As an enclosure to the letter, they included a final walk through checklist. DO NOT RENT HERE! You will regret it. They sell you a dream to get you to the sign the lease and once you sign your lease, they treat you like crap.
The area and schools are great.. I have to agree with the ladies below regarding the rent.. The new management are friendly at least with what I've experienced so far but the rent went way up and they told me they wouldn't even remodel even when I sign a new lease.. I think with "market price" rent that they are charging they should remodel our apartments, because then your paying what everyone else is paying but for a piece of crap.. I even asked for at least a new carpet and they said no.. I'm so frustrated and upset with them.. I'm a single mom and when I asked for just a 2 month extension on my old lease they said no. again paying for a "luxury apartment" but no renovations in the ones we currently occupy . Heartless... So its a nice place to live if your a new resident but I guess screw the people who have been loyal for years..
The neighborhood isn't so bad. It's the people that have taken over the leasing office. They are going through to ensure that you pay every penny nickle and dime you can scrape up for things you have even already paid for. Too many incidents with too many residents have happened since these people have started. I cant take it anymore.
