Historic Butts family homestead has been in 1 family for generations. 1st time offered ever! Butts Corners was an important cross roads in the 19th century when the house, barn and Carriage Manufactory (no privately owned) were established just after the Civil war. An older frame house was razed in 1887 when the current house was completed. The large post and beam barn is a masterpiece of 19th century engineering and construction. This building remains in remarkable condition, still straight and true with hand wrought strap hinges on the doors and a completely hand pegged frame. Both hand hewn and milled lumber were used in the barns construction. The house is a simple 3 over three room design in a T form with central stair. There are vaulted ceilings on both floors and a full deep basement under all. The hemlock frame of the house remains in terrific condition and few changes have been made since 1887 when the house was finished. Extensive records from the building of this house have remained in the family.
