Definitely not the nicest place in the area, but I've seen worse. The elevators are rarely ever both working at the same time, and if you live on a higher floor, it's impossible to control the temperature in your apartment. Be prepared to have your windows open during the winter. The water pipes are pretty loud, but you learn to tune it out. There are some very obnoxious neighbors, but I feel you'll have that anywhere. If you just need something cheap and temporary, it's fine. Personally haven't had many issues - leaky faucet and a broken garbage disposal, both were fixed within a half hour of calling it in. I will not be renewing my lease after my second year, and I probably would never move back, but I don't regret moving here. It's convenient and affordable.
Don't live here unless you absolutely have to. They are under new ownership now but the buildings are still a dump and filled with trash. The only way to fix this place is to burn it down. The halls stink, and good luck getting any reasonable maintenance done. My car was broken into several times here, security is a joke. Kids like to pull the fire alarms in the middle of the night. They congregate in the lobby and scream in the afternoon. I moved out three months ago and they have yet to remove my phone number from the door buzzer for my old unit- obviously they haven't managed to complete all of the repairs that we asked for and were ignored. Tons of water damage and mold everywhere. Ground floor units are filled with bugs and the carpet always felt damp. They even went as far to tell us "you get what you pay for" after we called with a list of complaints that had not been handled properly.
With all the super negative reviews I figured I should jump in and post my experience. I've been living at Chestnut Lake for probably 4 years now, if not longer. I haven't needed incredibly too much maintenance during my time here, but the times I have called them they were pretty prompt. Sure perhaps not the most professional, but they did their job and I thought they were good company. They've replaced things for me without question: ACs and Dishwasher, with very few problems. The only time I really questioned maintenance if when we had a bad storm a few years ago and the walls on the INSIDE were soaked.. they simply waited for them to dry and came in a few days later to spray paint the stains... kinda odd. They claimed it wouldn't mildew, and I'm not a professional, but besides odd paint streaks on my wall, it hasn't been an issue since. The noise levels in my specific building aren't so bad, although the hallways are dark and smelly, and there is sometimes trash. Please people, you LIVE here, treat it better. I've only had a few issues with neighbors and they were quickly solved for the most part. Office workers have always been straight to the point and went through the general gestures of kindness. I actually prefer that, instead of being overly nice and fake. My rent does go up every year, and not too high, but eventually it will be if it keeps going. The point is... is this the perfect place? Naw... but for what it costs IN STRONGSVILLE its probably the best. I checked out the other options and, unlike some of the other places in Srongsville that are more expensive, the walls aren't caving inward. So yea, its not so bad here.
STAY AWAY! This is by far the worst apartment myself and roommates have experienced. BEDBUGS. Management team will go to great lengths to take tenants' money via shady charges and unannounced changes to policy, as well as attempting to deny responsibility for the units having bedbugs. Apes running wild throughout the complex at all hours. Trash in stairwells and hallways. Mold present.
I do not mind the apartment I am living in. I like the size of my kitchen, living space, and bedroom for a 1 bedroom. I don't like management, they're dodgy and not very helpful after you get into the place. Maintenence is a hit or miss. I understand the building is old but some of the issues are small enough that they should be fixed. I can say at the moment it is very dingy and dirty but they're doing a lot of updates due to new ownership. Just pay your rent on time and ignore how dumb and rude your neighbors are and it's not terrible for the price you pay
