My husband and I stayed in a one bedroom here for seven months. The management was extremely unfriendly and unhelpful, in fact, I have never had to deal with managment and office staff as unprofessional as this one. The biggest problem was that our carpet smelled of cat urine, human urine, and smoke the entire six months. We asked the managment to fix the carpet, and all they did was have us move all of our furniture into the kitchen and bathroom and have their carpet crew (two young men in their early 20's) come and spray down the carpet padding as well as the carpet, which did nothing to relieve the smell of the urine. Because the carpet crew couldn't smell anything, the office staff did not believe that there was a problem. They never came up to the apartment themselves and evaluated the situation. Our guests could smell the odor, and it was quite embarrassing. We became so tired of having to go down and confront the office (which was extremely uncomfortable given that they are very unfriendly) that we decided to go out and purchase thick plastic and tape it down to the carpet. This helped relieve the smell to some degree and made it bearable to live there. When our six month contract came up, we went to the office to give them notice a month in advance, and we were told that they required two months advanced warning. Apparently we had overlooked that in the contract when we signed the lease. So, even though we were both jobless at the time and were planning on moving in with parents to save money, we were required to pay for an additional month. Upon moving out, we spent an entire day cleaning the apartment to make sure it was very clean. We were charged $66 more than our deposit to have them clean the carpet and do a light cleaning on the apartment, which is the first time this has ever happened to us (we have lived in at least five other apartments in three other states prior to this one). We are very clean with no pets or children and were shocked to receive the statement in the mail. On another note, Selmi Drive is also very busy at night and will keep you up if you live close to the street and you are a light sleeper. Although the rates are lower, the neighbors are friendly, there is a washer and dryer in the unit, and it seems like a great deal, I would never recommend living here to anyone. Choose another apartment complex if you don't want to be extremely disappointed.
Don't live here!! You think you're saving yourself so much money but really you are gaining a big headache. People here are thieves, I have lost two bikes and a scooter (all three had the locks cut). Management does nothing about it, they say that it is my fault. There used to be security on sight, but to save money, they got rid of them and now just have the cops come around every few days. There is an annual inspection in which you are basically intruded upon and harassed by different people for an entire week or two. If you ever want to speak to their corporate office, they give you a number that you can leave a message, but no one will ever get back to you, so don't even bother. They will harass you constantly almost every month after your contract is up to "re-certify" (whatever that means) and then they jack up the rent about $200-$300. If you don't "re-certify" every month, you will be evicted. There used to be a night slot to pay rent so you don't have to pay late fees by putting in your rent check after hours, but they took it out so they can get you to pay an extra $50 for paying rent one day late. I have lived under the loudest people for about two years (I think that they were running marathons for a few days straight) and since I complained about it, I have been threatened with an eviction notice. This place is a joke and since it is low income housing, they will treat you like you are a second rate citizen. Do yourself a favor and pay an extra $100 somewhere else and live in a place where you can actually be happy. There is no storage, and with a 2 bed 2 bath equalling about 900 sq ft, there is really nowhere to really store anything if you have a good amount of stuff. I wish I could give this place no stars or even negative stars, because it is really that bad. If you don't believe me, go ahead and live here for a year and see what I mean. Trust me you have been warned!!!
I was never a resident, but communication was horrible when I applied to live here. I wasted my time (and some money) during the application process. The only possible bright side to any of this is that I don't have to deal with all of the shenanigans mentioned by the other reviewer.
